THE RICHMOND PALLADIUM AND SUN-TELEGRAM, RICHMOND, IND., WEDNESDAY, DEC. 6, 1922.

S.S.I. A. URGES NINTH STREET STRAIGHTENED OFFICERS RE-ELECTED Officers of the South Side" Improvement association Tuesday night were re-elected to serve for the coming year at a meetiog beid at the Beallview club house. The officers are: A. W. Bickwedel, president; William Bartel, Jr., first vice president; John Zwlssler, second vice president; S. O. Beck third vice president; J. Henry E. Bode, secretary; Matt Von Pern, financial secretary; Anton Stolle, treasurer. The directors were chosen as follows: John Xiewoehner, Arthur Brockman. Fred Hackman, Matt Brinker and William Haberkern. The installation of the officers will take place the first Tuesday of the new year. Frank Strayer, prosecutor-elect "will be the installing officer. The secretary will

report all the business transacted dur

ing the past year. Legislation, proposing a two cent tax

to be placed on each gallon of gaso

line for the upkeep o the roads, was endorsed.

It was urgent that the improvement of the Boston pike to the county line

be pushed. The matter referred to the Street and Alley committee. Forward Bridge Plans. . : Definite plans have been forwarded to officials of the C. and O. railroad, for th8 new bridge to be constructed on Ninth street over the C. and O. tracks. It is hoped to have a bridge constructed of Iron, with a cement floor. A plan for eliminating the danger of accidents at the corner of South Ninth and B streets, was suggested. The lot standing on the north east corner has been bought by the Standard Oil company for building an oil filling Htation. Ninth street is straight until it comes to South E street. Here it juts to the east for about 15 feet and "then continues south to the Boston :jike. By cutting the southwest corner and the northeast corner, a straight street would result. , It was suggested that the playground of the Hibberd school on South Eighth street be leveled so that children would not have to wade throusrh water puddles whenever it rains. Old dead limbs hanging from trees in the school yard are to be trimmed off. An auditing committee was appointed to inspect the records of the association. The members of the committee who were selected are C S. Heet, Joseph-Wulterman and Alfonse Wel-shaupt..

issue. The need of a stadium has been felt for several years, but most keenly during the last year, when the old Athletic park was insufficient to care for the attendance at ball games, community pageants and other athletic events.

Hi-Y Boys Set Standard

For Christian Living

Members of the Hi-Y club are wearing new Dins. The insignia of the

club is at the top of the pin. Under the insignia is a white cross. Over 60 boys are now wearing these pins. The club has taken the following as its motto: "To create, maintain and extend throughout the school and community high standards of Christian character." The white cross on the pin signifies purity; the red triangle stands for red-blooded service and growth in body, mind and spirit. The members of the club have agreed that

if the motto is broken by any one of them, he will turn in his pin until he
