teousnej s expresses the true spirit of

Jhe American people, according to

General Feng Yu Hsiang, as quoted by

Rev. T. E, Luni, Protestant Episcopal

missionary at Wuhu, China. :

: Rev. Mr. Lund, -while visiting Epis

copal diocesan headquarters here, said that the genetal had rechristened the

American by adding feo (benevolence)

to mei (righteousness), heretofore

used as an appellation for an Ameri

can. "An American and a friend of anotb

er nationality were traveling in the

mountains of Sbensi, a province gov-

' erned by General Feng," said Mr.

Lund. " "They engaged in controver

sy with natives and appealed to Gen

eral Feng for redress. He declared

their passports Inadequate and asked why they did not seek his authority

for their expedition. American Man Apologizes

"The American gentleman apologized, but his companion made sharp retort and proceeded to argue the point

The next day General Feng invited

the two gentlemen to dinner. - He was

anxious to come to a friendly under

standing with his two guests, bnt only

on the ground that they would ack

nowledge his position as technically

correct. In this he -succeeded only with the American, but he -was visibly

annoyed by the other. : The conver

sation was cut short by his saying

look upon the face of this 'American

gentleman and forgive yon, pointing to his campanion. He then turned to his interpreter and said, :Tell my American friend that I have a new

name for his country. Henceforth it shall be known as Feo Mei, benevo-

lentrrighteousness, for I have conceiv

ed long before this that that expresses the true spirit of the American peo

ple.' :

"General Feng now Is Joined to Gen

leral Wn Pel Fu in the task of uniting

I China raider one central government (The two generals represent the highi est authority In China and their senti.ment toward America is well expressed in the above name."

VON MOLTKE FIRST TO GO UNDER RULE OF YILHELM'S WIFE

(By Associated Press)

DOORN, Holland, Dec. 1. The first change in the kaiser's household since Princess Hermine took over the reins is the departure of Count Von Moltke, the court marshal. "The new empress has signified her intention of instituting a regime which will be directly opposed to the policies of Von Moltke. The dispute between -Princess Hermine and the retiring marshal is said

to have arisen over the question of whether the kaiser should confine him

self to Doorn castle. The former em

peror's bride favored more freedom

of movement for her husband, but this

was contrary to the wishes of Von

Moltke, wno is regarded as respon

sible for the virtual imprisonment ot Wilhehn within the garden walls. Take Daily Walks Princess Hermine and her youngest daughter take daily walks outside of thetcastle grounds and she has appeared several times in the town of Doorn. The kaiser has been frequently seen with her in parts of the grounds and is expected that she will soon prevail upon him to accompany her on trips to the village. Another change in the household regime that is probably traceable to Princess Hermine's influence is the prospective departure of Dr. Hae-

ucher the court physician, who soon

leaves tne castle to take up bis private practice in Amsterdam, The new mistress of Doorn castle chats freely with all. sorts ot people during her daily walks and is evidently desirous ot making friends. She has a very pleasant manner on these occasions visiting with anyone who shows much interest in her new. sur

roundings. She is already gaining

popularity among the townspeople of Doorn and many children of the

village were guests at a recent party given in - honor . of . her daughter's fourth birthday. ' "
