County Churches

(Special to the Palladium) LIBERTY, Ind., -Nor. 24. A riotous entertainment; culminating in an old-

fashioned quadrille, given on the stage

by four couplc3, was the outcome of an old fiddlers' contest held In the Auditorium Thursday evening. James Dickey was awarded first place as old fiddler, George Lennard, second and

James RJles, a negro, third. "Turkey In the Straw,' "Arkansaw Traveller" and a dozen other old tunes, were played for the edification of the audience as the half dozen contestants engaged in their friendly rivalry. - The entertainment, which was managed by L. N. Lawson, opened with a concert by all- the contestants, after which special numbers were given by different performers. Imitations of bagpipes, whistling birds, and various farm sounds, were given by Clint Smith with a fiddle, James Riles, colored, and 95 years old, was one of the fa

vorites among the fiddlers. Clint Hollingsworth's bone rattling also met

witn approval. Pie Eaters Compete Another feature of the evenlnz was

a pie eating contest In which nine boys of eight to 10 years took Dart.

A howl of delight arose from the audience when one youngster, a redheaded,' freckle-faced youngster, who was a strong contender for first place, met with tragedy when nearly through
