DECLARES ENGLAND DOES NOT NEED GULF STREAM FOR WARMTH
(By Associated Frss LONDON, Not. 21. Science has come forward recently to destroy another of man's long cherished illusions but at the same time it has removed a source of constant anxiety to those who would attempt to understand the causes of climatic conditions. ..... . ...... M. Danois, the well known hydrolog1st, who has made a special study of the waters of the Atlantic, has declared that the temperate climate of the British Isles and the northern coast of France does not depend on the Gulf Stream, and that its diversion would not therefore, leave this section of the world in the grip of an Arctic winter. M. Danois claims to have proved that the Gulf Stream, rising to. the. porth of the Antilles, does not pass the Sargasso Sea; and the notion must be discarded that it traverses the . Atlantic to bathe the shores of England and France. - He expresses the view that the. Gulf
Stream is merely the backwash of the equatorial currents. Summer heat pro
vokes dilations of the heavily salted
equatorial waters, which translate themselves Into permeations of the
more lightly salted Arctic and Conti
nental waters. It Is these permea
tions in the eastern Atlantic which
have been mistaken for branches of
the Gulf Stream. They are, however,
purely local currents and vary accord lng" to the season. .
"TIGER OF FRANCE" CAPTURES NEW YORK
TWO MEN INJURED
WHEN GREW MUTINIES
By Associated Press)
SAN FRANCISCO. Nov. 21 Two
men were injured, probably seriously
last night when the deck crew of tne steam schooner Jacinto, bound from
this port to Gray's harbor, Washing
ton, mutinied soon after the vessel
cleared the Golden Gate.
Captain Werteman and his officers forced the mutineers into- the forecastle and subdued them. . Two members of the crew were stabbed by shipmates in the rioting incident to the mutiny, ship's officers reported. Two other crew members were placed in irons and the vessel sailed back to San Francisco with its police flag flying. Six members of the crew were arrested and Captain Werteman said charges of mutiny on the high seas would be placed against them. The Jacinto is owned' by the E. K. Wood lumber company. The cause of the mutiny was liquor, according to ship's officers.

ORGANIZATIONS JOIN
IN EDUCATION WEEK: CELEBRATE DEC. 3-9
WASHINGTON. Nov. 21. Education week, under the auspices of the bureau of education, will be observed this year from Dec. 3 to 9. After the first celebration throughout the country of a week to promote education
two years ago, co-operation of the American Legion, the National Education association, clubs, schools and churches became widespread and this year greater good than ever is expected to result from the campaign. President Harding has assured commissioner of education Tigert that he would, by proclamation, set aside that week for education purposes, and a
real nation-wide revival of educational enthusiasm is looked for by educators generally. In order to concentrate the campaign upon phases of education which are of outstanding significance, cer
tain days were designated upon which
special topics will be stressed. These are: Sunday , December 3, God and Coutry; Dec. 4, American citizenship; 5th, patriotism; 6th, school and teacher; 7th, illiteracy; 8th equality of opportunity, and 9th, physical education and hygiene. Every facility for publicity and education, even the air, will be used, for the bureau of education has arranged with the inter-department advisory committee on government radio broad
casting to use government radio to broadcast educational material twice daily through the week. Co-operation of motion picture theatres also has been tendered. Governors, mayors and other executive officers have been invited by the education officials to issue proclamations and otnerwise promote general observation of the week. Newspapers and magazines also will set aside space for the campaign.

High Prices For Hot Dogs Chief Topic In Germany I By AsociatPd Press) WASHINGTON. Nov. 21. The high prices for hot dogs have hit GeTmany, ip commerce department has been revised by Counsel John A. Scott, at .Dresden. "One of the chief topics of the day in Germany, he said, "is the tremendous increase in meat and sausage prices. The consumer places the blame on the butchers, while the latter condemn the slaughter houses, and from there the high prices are passed down to the farmer, who states that it is the high cost of feed that forces him to demand a high price for his meat Beef, mutton and pork have risen over 100 per cent in the last 60 days, while slaughter house fees have risen 200 per cent.
PROPER FLY FISHING OUTFIT (The second of a series of articles written on this subject by George Wilkins, Wayne county sportsman.) The Reel The reel can either be of the single action or automatic type. Most anglers prefer the single action as they play their fish entirely by hand, by the stripping method and the only use for the reel is to handle the surplus line. The main fault with practically all single action reels is that they are entirely too light to give a rod weighing more than six ounces the proper balance, which is a very important item in a hard day's casting as there are very few wrists that will stand steady casting with an unbalanced rod. Here is where the automatic shines It has the weight to properly balance the rod and for handling slack line it is in a class by itself. It is impossible for a fish to obtain any slack line when the angler has his finger on the lever of an automatic reel. The main objection to the automatic Is that it is too hard to strip line from in false casting and it is also hard on a good enamel line. But the advantage of obtaining a proper balance for
a heavy rod enables the angler to go
through a hard day's casting withoui wearing out his wrist. High winds of the last few days have driven thousands of ducks, southward bound, to the surface of Kosciusko county lakes and scores of hunters have been able to bag the limit prescribed by law. The ducks this year appear to be in no hurry to reach the southland and the lakes and rivers of this section are alive with them.
Not In many years have rabbits been so plentiful In the woods and fields of northern Indiana, according to hunters. Many of the cotton tails are being killed at the very edge of Warsaw and other northern Indiana cities. Hudson Miller, residing south of this city, shot a large red fox on his farm after the animal had killed and maimed several lambs.
POOR FARM FIRE KILLS TWO COVINGTON, Tenn., Nov. 20 Two
inmates of the Tipton county poor
farm are dead and a third is seriousiy burned as a result of a fire which
destroyed one of the buildings on the farm. One of the dead men, who was blind, was supposed to have upset a lamp.
Chicago Opera Circles Are Stirred By Defamation Sait (By Associated press) CHICAGO, Nov. 21. A $100,000
damage suit, for alleged defamation of character, against ClarKe A. Shaw, business manager of the Chicago Civic Opera company, caused a stir in local opera circles today. It was filed yesterday by Aurelio Fabiani, former violinist of the company. The action centers about an alleged promise made by Fabiani to Miss Lois Ewell, a soprano, to obtain for her a contract with the opera company on payment of $6,000. Both Shaw and Fabiani. after the suit was filed, were quoted as reiterating previous statements. Shaw again declaring that Fabiani made such an offer to Miss Ewell, while the opera's former violinist again denied the charge. Three thousand automobiles were struck by trains at grade crossings in the United States last year, Involving the killing of 2,000 persons and the maiming of 3,000 others. .
