MEKH Now cometh that annual period In life when all good men dip a pen Into the ink of baseball dopedom and elect a lot of baseballers as members of the mythical All-Star team. In years . gone by the chore was fraught with more or less difficulty. But it's different this season. In fact, it's simple to an extreme. For at least three of the infield positions, two of the outfield jobs, the backstops and most of the pitchers sort of pick themselves. And the outfit which the records choose establishes itself as the mightiest collection of 6luggers that any single year of baseball ever has known. Three men are in the .400 class and the average of the team exclusive of the pitchers is .352. ' ' " " Sister Far Ahead Slsler stands so far beyond his rivals at first base that there's n comparison. - The same thing goes for Hornsby at second base. Bancroft, all things considered, was the most brill iant and wonderful shortstop of the year." Williams, of the Browns, Ruth, of the Yanks, and Hellman, of the Tigers, were candidates flor the third joh inhe garden. ; Will iams got it. Heilman hit somewhat harder than Williams and Ruth had a higher home run per game average than the Brownie slugger. But whatever Will lams had to yield to Heilman in the matter of percentage he more than off set in four base work. For William's banged out 39 four basers while Heilman was accomplishing only 21. And beyond all that, Williams stele 25 sacks, while Heilman could pilfer only eight. Ruth made 35 homers in 110 games while Williams made his 39 in 153 combats. That gives Ruth a better slugging average than Williams. But the point is this: Williams, by clean SUNDAY SCHOOL NET LEAGUE UNDER WAY Twelve teams now are entered in the Y. M.
