It lends fun to apple-bobbing when we recall that it Is a ' timelong custom, indulged In centuries ago. To do it, rill a tub with water. Then put several apples that have stems on them, floating on the water. To bob for them, put your bands behind you, lean over and try to grasp the apple stem be

lug, set Afloat In a large pan of water. The behavior of these tiny boats reveal the future of those for whom they are named. If two glide on together their owners have a like destiny. If they glide apart, so It will be. Sometimes the little boats will huddle together, leaving one out In the cold, an outcast, as It were. Again, two will start, the rest will follow, declaiming a wedding' procession. The one whose candle goes out first Is.dcstlned ta be an old maid or bachelor. These nut shell boats i may be made, too, by pouring melted wax rnndles Into the half shells, using short string for wicks. ,V
An Odd Banquet . The nobles who attended the coronation banquet of Henry V in Westminster Hall ranged themselves at the table on great war horses, because some one thought thdt would make a more imposing and magnificent scene.
Library Week in the children's departments will be celebrated all over the nation in a short while. Our department has Eet aside the week beginning Monday, November 20th. We of Richmond should celebrate this week with added enthusiasm. We have indeed a great
deal to celebrate over. Mrs. Ada Bernhardt, our librarian, has had the children's room completely done over. Much new book space has been added. A very attractive covering is now on the floor. Several hundreds of dollars have been spent for new books. Our child
ren's department is now equal to the departments of many of our large cities. Plan to visit the library during this week. You will be repaid for going. Our list of books for this week is of interest to us all. It is of fairy stories, of which our library is well supplied. "The Enchanted Forest," by Maud and Miska Petersham, is a charming modern fairy tale. "Christmas Every Day," by William Dean Howells. "The Whirling King, and Other French Fairy Tales," by Harriet M. Olcott. "The Children's Fairyland," by Countess D'Aulnoy. "Seven Peas in a Pod," by Marjorie Bailey. "The Firelight Fairy Book," by II . B. Beaton. "The Girl Who Sat by the
Asnes," oy 1'aUraic Colum.
(This Is one of eight lessons which will tell how any boy . can make a complete model aeroplane which will fly under Its own power. Warren DeLacey, writer of these articles, was formerly president of the Illinois Model Aero club, a group of boys who build and fly their own models and who hold nine of the ten world's records for model aeroplane flying. Clip these articles until you have the complete set, Including the directions for flying your machine.) A
main flat plane at the rear, the main wing is placed. This, the front plane, is always fixed so that it strikes the air at an angle which gives the lifting force to the machine. If the model starts to dive, this lift increases with the speed, bring the front up and stopping the fall. The main plane has its tips

"Gormandizing" is the subject of a new bill brought forward in Bavaria just recently ; heavy penalties being inflicted on tho:;e who "create a public pcandal" by eating too much.
There's a thrill that comes with seeing a model aeroplane that you have made yourself rise from the ground and go circling off through space. Such a model isn't much harder to make than a kite, and is many times more interesting to work with. You also learn a lot about the principles of flying. Many of the famous pilots and men in aeronautics today were building and flying models but a few years ago. Maybo you've been reading about wonderful flights made in Europe with niotorlesa planes. Well, the idea for such flights came from the study of model aeroplane flying. With a few simple tools and materials, most of w hich can be found around the house, you can make a model that will fly several hundred feet. Boys in our Model Aero Cub have made some that go a mie. Model Consists of Three Parts A model must have, three parts; the propeller, the main plane, which
lifts the weight, and the
above its center also; that is, it has a slight "V" shape which keeps the model from turning over sideways in the air. Behind the main wing is the flat rear plane and al.so the upright rudder. The flat plane is, to stop the machine from turning over sideways, and tl 9 rudder is to make the model fly straight. These are the only parts necessary on the simple "tractor" model. A stick is used lor the body of the aeroplane, on which the rudder is stretched. The propeller is attached to one end of this stick and the rear plane r f 1 rudder to the other. The mam plane is behind the propeller in the middle of tha stick.

planes in the rear which keep the model straight and level. The propeller is usually placed in front, and on small models is turned by rubber. As it goes about, it pulls the model through the air. Between the propeller and the
