JAMES J. STORROW, fuel adminis-' trator of Massachusetts, says, "Don't burn a pound of coal in October. , Cook and heat water for your household with a kerosene stove. It will save you money. It will perhaps keep you out of the coal line next winter. Cooking by kerosene is cheaper than coal. Kerosene can be bought anywhere."
' Jfteroaene can be benight anyvefiGrtt" This statement Is particularly true throughout the Middle Western states served by the Standard Oil Company (Indiana), whose distribution service la 100 complete. Kerosene is delivered to the home, whether on a distant iztmt in a small town, or in a big city. Imagination and foresight were required to anticipate the demand for petroleum products which exists today. Permanency in organization, efficient management and close attention to the minutest detail has resulted in establishing within this Company a spirit of service which is expressed in the ar-flung system of distribution and delivery which makes every user of petroleum products in the 10 Middle Western States feel certain that his needs will be instantly supplied. The Standard Oil Company (Indiana) distributing system represents an investment of over $45,000,000. It includes 25 main stations where complete stocks of products are kept on hand, 3973 bulk stations, 1605 service stations and 7167 tank wagons. It has grown to meet the needs of the present and to anticipate the needs of tlje future. It is highly flexible and capable at all times of meeting emergencies, such as a coal shortage, in any section of the territory served. This service is available st every home. To meet the needs of the public it serves is the ideal which the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) has before it at all times. It is alert to foresee a possible need for its products, and when the demand comes it is prepared to supply it; for example, the possible coal shortage has resulted in an unusual demand for a burning oil for use in home-heating plants, and the Company was ready with Stanolind Furnace Oil, which it had developed for this particular service. StanoKnd Furnace oil is equal to kerosene in heating value and sells at a lower price. This is another benefit accruing to s the public at large, through an efficiently managed big business.

ILast!: 'STeai?? Last years fire loss in the United States and Canada was over $500,000,000. In the past ten years $1 out of every $4 spent in new construction has been destroyed by fire. Each year we burn up enough property to build homes for a city of half a million people a city as large as Buffalo. To put it another way, $500,000,000 would have built over 14,000 miles of concrete roads at $35,000 a . mile, or 5,000 school buildings at $100,000 each. Fire loss represents a total loss of natural resources together with loss of time, wages, customers, good will and all the disorganizing effects that follow fire. In addition fire takes annually an enormous toll of human life. To drive home the necessity and profit of buildings that won't burn is part of the work of the Portland . Cement Association. Time and time again concrete has proved itself the highest type of fire resistive construction. Concrete buildings command lowest insurance rate. Concrete construction means safety combined with longest life at minimum upkeep. Concrete grows stronger with age. The Portland Cement Association is constandy, assisting every movement directed to'ward reducing fire waste through the medium of better building. Our engineers are at au times cooperating with builders, architects and x others with a view to re-; '-, .ducing fire hazards. Aiding the work of fire pre- , vention is typical of the daily service of the Portland Cement AssociationPORTLAND CEMENT ASSOCIATION qA "National Organization to Improve and Extend the Uses of Concrete .
