Monster Tank Built In England Travels 20 Miles An Hour, Carries 50 By WILLIAM R. KUHNS (United Press Staff Correspondent) LONDON, Oct 16. Despite tho veil of secrecy that is invariably thrown I arOURd the develnrimnnf of new en

gines of destruction, the United Press learns from reliable source of a monster tank, capable of carrying 50 troops, which has just been constructed for the War Office. One who participated in several of the recent trials stated "it was as comfortable as riding along a well-paved street in a taxL""' These tests have been carried out in an isolated spot not far from London and every detail of construction has been jealously guarded by the military office. The new tank is designed along the same lines as those used against the Germans, but there have been numerous improvements. For instance, it is capable of a speed of 20 miles an hour, whereas the noisy, clumsy tanks of the last war could scarcely do eight miles at top speed. Provide Comfort In addition, greater attention has been given to interior comfort. The significance of this feature will be obvious to anyone who has had the unforgettable experience of jolting over ditches, rocks and shell-holes in one of the earlier monstrosities. The average battle was a relief by time one reached the scene of action. . There i3 an elaborate arrangement of springs and the interior has been upholstered. The super lank 13 well provided sgainst attack. Experiments are being carried out with a machine-gun for firing one-inch bullets. These it is claimed, will penetrate and put out of action an enemy tank. The war office has considered the

possibility of arming each of the crew

with these guns. This would mean

that, a fleet of these monsters could

move forward through obstacles here

tofore-insurmountable, loaded with a

contingent of troops.

picture productions, released by Para

mount, is an authority on what consu

tutes the best and most lovely wed

ding gowns. She ha3.been a bride. in

five recent pictures, and in each she

was stunningly gowned. In her latest

Paramount picture, "The Young Di

ana, . whlcn 13 being snown at tne Murray theatre, she is the central fig

ure in one of the most brilliant wed-;

dings ever seen on , the screen. She

weds a lieutenant in the navy and the

ceremony is a most picturesque affair

with the men of the bridal party -in

uniform and tho bride herself a vision of loveliness in a gown of heavy white satin, and a veil which is a combination of dotted net and tulle and which flares out. from the head in a cunning Dutch cap effect. The other weddings were staged in "The Cinema Murder," "Buried Treasure," "The Bride's Play" and "Getting Mary Married." In "The Bride's Play" she wore a maline veil trimmed with rhinestones and offset with a beautiful Grecian headpiece. Her wedding costume in "The Young Diana" is her favorite, however. Forest Stanley plays opposite the star in' the production.

More than one-half of the gold mar

keted every year is produced within

MURRETTE A simple but strong dramatic story furnishes the theme fov the new John M. Stahl production. "One Ciear Call," the current First National attraction at the Murrette theatre, which it is predicted by the trade, will bo one of

the screen sensations of 1922. Months

of negotiation preceded Louis B. May

er's securing the picture rights to this

Frances Nimmo Green book as arrangements had already been made

for its production on the speaking stage, but, through the influence of a strong financial bid. the author was

persuaded to favor the film concern

with the -dramatic rights.

The plot is laid in a small town in

Alabama, where two men of strangely contrasting nature are in love with the

same woman. She Is in love witn one

of the men but married to the other.

The eternal triangle receives treat

ment that is, both novel and new in the development of the story, winding up with a tremendous thrill and a climax that will make the people talk about it after the show is over. A great all-star cast interprets the roles. Heading the list are Henry B. Walt

hall, Claire Windsor, Milton Sills,

Irene Richf Joseph Downing, Shannon

Day, Fred Kelsey, Annette De Foe and Nick Cogley.

Murray Vaudeville Three little maids, dainty, eccentric and comely, grace the" boards at tho Murray during the present bill of vaudeville. Their act Is augmented by special stage settings which add much

to the charm of their offering. Open

ing with an eccentric dance, they win early favor. . Many .delightful dance novelties are offered, the crowing feat of "turpsickory" being the skeleton

dance, in which the wierd ,'bone.s" give

a "rattling", good number and even

shimmy, showing that they departed this life not so very long ago, at that.

"Patience" introduces a number that proves that the laws of nature can be

overcome. Common gray, cellar rats

hurdle over a gauntlet of cats, apparently unafraid of their natural ene mies.. The tabbies just can't help tak ing an occasional jab at the "meals'

as they glide past but the rats es

cape unharmed, nevertheless. The woolly pets are strong favorites. The bout between "Jack Dempsey" and "Carpentier" is very amusing. "Carpentier" shows almost as much abili

ty as the famous French idol In his

ability to hang over the ropes and taka

the knockout punch.

Thes9 historic events are only a

few of those recorded by the camtra for the big Universal chapter plav in "In the Days of Buffalo Bill," which is now playing at the Palace. The superintendent of schools of San Diego, Calf., Henry C. Johnson, highly, endorsed this serial as tho best educational picture ever produced . Educators all over the country

have expressed their opinion to the effect, that if motion picture concerns would concentrate on serials like "la the Days of Buffalo Bill," the screen would be the greatest educational m--dium in the world, A whirlwind of action is "When Romance Rides," the new Zane Grey picture, produced by Benjamin B. Hampton, and released by Goldwyn, playing at the Palace theatre. It was adapted from Mr. Grey's most widely sold novel "Wildfire," in which ' the beautiful wild stallion of . that name plays an important part. ' In fact, horses may be said to share the limelight with Claire Adams, Carl Gantvoort and Jean Hersholt, the three featured players, in this photoplay. ... The horses seen in. the great race at the rodeo are valued at $200,000. Washington "Love Is An Awful Tbing," with Its whimsical title,- opened at the Washington theatre, yesterday for a 4 day engagement. " Owen Moore is the star. Marjorie Daw. and Kathryn . Perry are prominent in the-supporting company.

The story-is pure farce, full of absolutely legitimate laughs, and Mr.

Moore-and -iis Selznick association handle it in faultless fashion. The star proves that "love ia an awful

thing' by trying to work his way out of a whole peck of trouble which has been "brought "upon him by several affairs of the heart some of them genunie and others only make-belive all of which become distressingly active about the. time he is on the evs of a big church wedding. A breach of promise suit is one of the things he has in prospect for a wedding present. These Owen Moore pictures are always highly enjoyable. Local theatregoers may recall the same star in "Reported. Missing," "A Divorce ot

Convenience," "The Chicken In the Case.". "The Poor Simp," and others. They're always clean as a whistle and they're always funny. '
