CORN CROP IN OHIO IS WELL MATURED; FORECAST BIG YIELD It la not often that summer waits as It has in Qhio this year until almost the last field of late planted com has matured before turning the farmer's crops over to the care of autumn. The state average yield Is now forecast at aboujt one bushel per' acre higher than seemed indicated
from conditions of a month ago and this Increase is largely in the late planted sections. The improvement in corn prospects is most marked in the northern counties the hot and dry weather may have caused fields in southwestern Ohio to ripen so soon that the yield was reduced. ' This year the quality of the crop Is fairly uniform over the state. Though the condition of corn in Ohio is five points below the crop of-a year ago the three per cent increase .in acreage almost makes up for the lower condition so that the indicated total crop is only a little below that of the 3921 crop. It is estimated at about 125,000,000 Trashel3. The United States
crop will not be more than 10 per cenf less than last year's record crop. This year's crop is especially heavy in the surplus state of Iowa and the crop will be large in Illinois. Clover Disappointing ' Inquiry from 400 farmers throughout the .more important clover seed sec
tions of the state shows an average yield per acre of 1-13 bushels. Altogether the turnout of clover seed is a disappointment, though 60 days ago the prospects seemed good for a fair yield. The October potato forecast for Ohio is about a half million bushels above the September estimate and Is
placed at 10,850,000 bushels by Statistician C. J. West of the state-federal crop reporting service. This is a potato crop for Ohio 50 per cent larger than last year's crop though not so large as the 1920 crop. The United States crop will be about 25 per cent above last year's crop and i3 estimated at 433,000,000 bushels. The larger crop of this year is reflected in the comparative prices for potatoes of $1.26 per bushel to farmers on Sept. 15 of this year and $2.05 for the state average at the same time last year.
Each of the leading truck crops show about a five per cent increase iu acre
age over last year in Ohio. Onion
yields per acre are fair while the yield
