MARTINSVILLE GETS READY TO CELEBRATE COUNTY ANNIVERSARY

MARTINSVILLE, Ind., Oct. 11 Martinsville "was being dressed up today. It was getting read for the celebration of Morgan county's one hundredth birthday, -which will be observed in this city tomorrow and Friday. Former residents of the county and those living within it3 -boundaries at the present time have been invited to attend the celebration. Those coming to the event have been asked to wear costumes such as were worn by the early settlers. I A campaign of several months ha3 been staged by those in charge of the event in the hope of making it a real home-coming. Indications are, it was said here today, that many persons who long ago left the county will be back to observe the anniversary. Program Features. Addresses by prominent men and women of the county, big basket dinners, a baby show, pioneer amusements, including a fiddlers contest, are on the program. Music, school contests, a gigantic pageant and an exhibition of county relics also have been sdfeduled. Tomorrow's program provides for the observance of home-coming, addresses by the returning natives, the baby show, a singing "skule" and the fiddlers' contest. Prizes will be awarded to the oldest man and woman present who are descendants of pioneers. A prize also will be given to the youngest child present whose ancestors were pioneers of Morgan county. The biggest event of the tlday celebration will take place on Friday, according to present plans. Girls who will take part in one episode of the pageant are eligible to participate only if they can trace their parentage back to pioneer residents of the county. Suburban BOSTON, Ind. A solo was rendered by Hugh Foss and a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fancher. One of the interesting features of the afternoon was a poem written and recited by Mrs. Jake Ingerman on former members of the church. Supper was served in tha basement, and the Newcastle B. Y. P. II. put on a program at 6:30. Following (his Rev. Reese preached one of the strongest and best sermons ever preached in the churches, on "The Three Crosses." Among the out of town guests at the church for the day were Mr. and Mrs. Ed. MURRETTE Jack Mower "died" for the first time in nine years of screen work during the filming of Cecil B. DeMUle's pro duction of "Manslaughter," which is now on at the Murrette theatre. Mr. Mower's screen career has included all types of characterizations, except the depiction of death. It re mained for him to be the victim of a speed maniac's escapade in Cecil B. DeMille's Paramount picture, that is to say, for the purpose of this virile story only. Leatrice Joy and Mr. Mower spent an exciting day on location filming the scenes of the automobile accident in which the character played by the latter meets his death. Mr. DeMille refused to permit the use of a dummy in these vital scenes with painful though not serious results, to the victim. However, he was badly shaken up.
