Lieut. James H. Doolittle, army aviator, set a new record for trans-continental flying when he completed a one-stop flight across the continent from Jacksonville, Fla., to San Diego in a specially built De Havlbnd airplane. He arrived at San Diego t 5:34 p. m., September 5, h one stop being at Kelly Field, San Antonio, Tex. The distance from Jacksonville to San Dieo is 2,100 miles. Dooli'tla flew at Bight from Jacksonville to Kelly

Field, having left tha Florida starting place at 10:30 p. m., September 4, landing at Kelly Field at daybreak, the following morning. He also e:r.bli3!.ed a record for single-stop flying. Other attempts at one-stop flights had been tried before Doolittle's, but his was the most successful. Doolittle himself attempted flight early h. August, but wrecked his pi 5 - 3 Florida beach before hr cruld get into the air.
