The most famous stamp collector In thp world, and one of the strangest of characters, was Count Philip la Renotiers von Ferrary. Though an Austrian subject, he had for many years made his home in Paris. He died in Switzerland in 1917. He chose to live as a man of mystery and indulge himself in eccentricities. Not a dozen persons could boast that they had ever seen his rarest specimens of stamps. He had quarreled with hi3 father and been disinherited, but managed to struggle along, according to Taris papers, on an income of $20,000,000 from rris mother. The Count began collecting at 16 years of age and was still at it when he died, 53 years later. Faris was the ideal place for the Count to live, not only because he Feemed like a character out of Baleae but also for more practical reasons; the French capital has long bofn a cosmopolitan gathering place of stamp collectors from everywhere in the world. "The stamp trade in Paris is so thoroughly organized that it even has a curb market. REMINDED From the Argonaut A southern revival meeting was in progress. The parson was in an ecstatic state of reforni. "Brudders and sistahs, I wants to warn you against the heinous crime ob shooting craps and fuddermo' I Wants to warn you 'bout de heinous crime ob stealing watermelons." At this juncture a darky in the back of the tent rose up, stapped his fingers, and sat down aeain. "Wharfo', brudder, does yo' rise up and snap yo' fingahs at my abiurations." 'ou jes' reminds m.3. pahson. whar all I lef ma jacknife," was the penitent response. Development of the radio compass for the first" time made possible the talvine of accurate bearings effective ly at a considerable distance during a fog, but guns, fired occasionally, were the first fog signals used 1n this coun

try.

"YOU'VE PASSED MEE" SAID THE BANK CHECK -TO THE A-B-CAD "I'm very busy," said the bank check, "I'm transferring a thousand dollars from man, named Jones to a man named Brown. I do this sort of thing all the time."
