MOSLEM MOSQUE IN . DETROIT UNABLE TO CREATE ENTHUSIASM (By Associated Press)

DETROIT. Mich., Aug. 24. The Moslem mosque In Highland Park, a suburb, that for more than a year has stood as. the only outward symbol of Islam in the western world is to be razed and the property sold. Injection of reforms into the ancient religion of the prophet, which it is said caused dissention in the ranks of Mohammedans here, and lack of interest on the part of most of them were - given by Muhahhad Karoub, wealthy Moslem real estate man, whose devotion to the cause led him

to sponsor the movement, as the reasons for abandonment of the project to propagate the Islamic faith in this country. ; Added to these is the fact that the property has been placed on the tax rolls by the Highland Park administration, and Mr. Karoub is compelled to pay taxes on the mosque, city officials holding it is "vacant property not used for religious worship." of censure for my people," adding if they differed from himself as to the innterpretations of the doctrine of Mohammed, "it is their affair and their right." Mr. Karoub came to America several years ago, a penniless immigrant from Arabia. Settling in Detroit, he obtained employment as a laborer in an automobile factory, and by saving money and making judicious invesf- ; ment, became wealthy, it is said. His next ambition was to further the cause of Islam in North and South America and the mosque followed. The structure was dedicated . in June, 1921, with elaborate ceremonies conducted by Mufti Mohammad Sadiq, Moslem missionary from India, whose doctrines it is said, caused a split in he congregation; and two local Moslem sheiks, Khaleel, Bizzy and Hassan Karoub, the latter a brother of the ' mosque builder.

WOMAN BADLY INJURED IN AUTOMOBILE WRECK

EATON. Ohio, Aug. 24 When an automobile, said to have been occu-l pied by Clement Pitsinger and Miss Katherine Cadell, of Dayton, crashed in to the end of a covered bridge, a short distance east of West Alexandria, Tuesday night, the large artery in Miss CadfU's neck was severed when she, fell against a jagged edge of the car windshield. Timely arrival of a physician is said to have saved her from bleeding to death. Pitsinger escaped injury. They were onroute to Eaton to attend a birth day party for Pitsinger at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pitsinger. Fined for Fight. As a result of a fight John Gans was fined $15 and costs Wednesday in Mayor Harry Risinger's court, and Clifford "Blink" Snaveley was to havs a hearing Thursday in the mayor's court. Gans entered a plea of guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct and , disturbing the peace, while Snaveley entered a plea of not guilty. Another charge of driving an automobile while intoxicated, was filed against Snavely, Mayor Risinge" said. He will be given a hearing on this charge next Tuesday morning. Want Rest Room.
