HEALTH CAMPAIGNERS TO DISTRIBUTE MILK TO SCHOOL CHILDREN

(By Associated Tress) CHICAGO. Auk. 18 When the

doors of the public schools swing open next month more than 25 per cent of America's school children are expected to be recess milk drinkers. A survey just completed by the National Dairy Council shows that in scores of cities and towns where new health campaigns are being started among children the plan of distributing milk at recess periods has been adopted. Records on the weighing and meas tiring of millions of school 'children

in these campaigns show that onethird of the twenty-ine million boys and girls are definitely under-nourished. Malnutrition and physical handicaps, according to M. D. Munn, president of the National Dairy Council, were found among children of the rich as well as among the poor. In many cases malnutrition is "due largely to the 'sweet-tooth' of the child." said Mr. Munn. "This 'sweet-tooth' results in the indiscriminate eating of candy and other sweets at improper hours, with disastrous effects upon the general health. A common sense diet is the only solution. And Ameri- - ca is awakening to that fact, and to the fact that the health of the child is the power of the nation." Small Cost

part of the health programs being con

ducted through "the co-operation of

blic schools, health departments, Women's clubs, parent-teacher associa

tions, the Elizabeth McCormick Memorial Fund, the National Dairy Council, and other associations promoting child health and public welfare. In

Chicago, where a large majority of all school children have haen brought

into the campaign, thousands who were from 20 to 40 per cent under weight have been brought up to normal, it was stated. .

Ham Prices Are Down Ham Boiled, Baked (Hot or Cold), Broiled, or Fried is one of the most appetizing and savory foods that the market offers. The wholesale price of ham is fifteen to twenty per cent lower than it was six weeks ago. The U. S. Dept of Agriculture in an announcement dated June 19, 1922, in referring to vitamins found in meat said, "Various cuts of meat were tried, and in every instance pork was found to be relatively rich in vitamins. Pork tenderloin, fresh ham, smoked ham, and pressed boiled ham were tested and the results were much the same with all of them. Swift's Premium Hams are always of a uniform high standard of quality,

regardless of price. A special cure of sugar and salt, and smoking over hardwood fires impart a flavor that has made "Premium" Ham the world's standard. Summer time is ham time. Insist on having "Swift's Premium" see the blue identification tag. . Swift & Company U..S.A.
