Artistic and Charming Tea Room to be Opened Saturday
Most artistic and charming in its simple colonial designs is the Polly Primm tea room, to be formally opened by Mrs. Ethel Conaway Peters Saturday morning, Aug. 5, at 11 o'clock, at 111 South Ninth street The tea rooms are situated In an old-fashioned grey brick house, behind which, paritally surrounded by a latticed fence, is a delightful garden, in which grow honeysuckle, golden glow and other flowers, and about which old, hickory furniture has been set to accommodate patrons. Trees, shrubbery and a grape arbor and archway offer delightful, inviting nooks where one may have tea. In the entrance hall there is an antique, a melodium, converted into a table and adorned with brass candlesticks. To the right is a quiet waiting room, furnished with antiques. The ante-room, hall, and serving rooms, of which there are three, are restful and homelike. The woodwork has a black satin finish, and the door panelings are done in midnight blue. The walls are French gray, with celings covered with a delightful, old-fashioned pink and gray tinted figured paper. Gray draperies, with figured valences of deep rose and gray, and small bowls of
flowers on each table, lend a quiet, rich color to the rooms. Luncheon will be served from 11 to 2 o'clock, tea from 4 to 6 o'clock, and dinner from 6 to 8 o'clock, by appointment or engagement. The cuisine, which will be supervised by Mrs. Peters, will specialize in wholesome floats, tarts, tea, waffles and other delectable foods. Patrons will be accommodated at small gray tables, bordered with black, and dainty napery and China of Colonial design will enhance the refined atmosphere of the tea rooms. An especial attraction to business women of the city will be the rest room, which will be open for their use at all times during the day and evening. Mrs. Peters has come to Richmond for residence from Indianapolis, as she liked Richmond and Richmond people. She has studied . tea rooms and their management in many cities for the past nine years, and has engaged in work which has fitted her for this chosen work. She is being assisted by her daughter. Miss Peters, who also has made a study of the work. This attractive tea room will answer the long need of Richmond for just such a thing.
