MISSIONARY SPIRIT NEEDED IN BUSINESS, PAGE TELLS FRIENDS "With our modern business organzation It is futile to expect anything but a fight," declared Kirby Page, secretary of thw Fellowship for a Christian social order, at tne Young Friends conference Friday night. "Modern business is organized on the basis of a fight. Employers are competing against employer, workers against workers, employers against workers, and the consumer against both of them in an attempt to lower prices. "The great need of the time is to look upon busiess in a missionary spirit, and enter business as a, means of service to the world. "The driving force of modern business is self-interest," he said, "and that interest has developed several good things. It has enormously increased production, lifted burdens from human shoulders, and saved time. Results In Classes. "But it has resulted in two extremes

of wealth, the very rich and the very -TWV1P wifh Mm. Of nr.r i I , .nui vu Li.uuvj persons who can be classed as millionaires, and 10,000,000 people who are every week on the border line of dependence on the state for sustenance. Half of the heads of families in the United States receive less than $1,500 a year. "Business is being concentrated and becoming impersonal. The stockholder is far away from his business, and but one of a number if he does desire a change. The manager is there to make dividends, and the owners of the company do not go behind that, while the worker by himself is helpless. "The result is the inevitable growth of collective bargainsm, and strife is the automatic and inevitable result. "The solution is changed attitude towards business. We must look upon it as a means of serving our fellows. Many of us will never bo in business, but those who are not must lend their moral support and their influence to any movement that Christianizes the sphere of business. Have Giving Spirit. "Some of us must fail in business in order to help establish that principle. We ask the missionary to serve -without recompense in foreign fields, we ask the minister to serve with the same spirit in our pulpits. Why not then serve with that same spirit in business, and carry our spirit, even though it means that our business fails?" Following the lecture the conference attended a showing of the Earlham pageant film that was taken during tho Diamond Jubilee celebration in June. Dr. Page will give his third and last lecture before conference at 7:30 Saturday evening, standard time. Sunday, the conference will be taken up mainly with religious exercises, while the evening meeting will be in the nature of a conference on the future plans of those that have been in attendance. The Philadelphia delegation staged a :o More War demonstration during the breakfast hour Saturday, as a part of the national celebration of the day. The parade was led by Frederick J. Libby, executive secretary of the National Conference for Reduction of Armaments, who is a member of the Philadelphia group. Obregon Keeps Border Peaceful, Says Missionary "That part of Mexico near the Texas

border has been entirely peaceful since j choirmaster, Joseph M. Richter. ' FriObregon became president," said Doug- flay evening. Holy Hour, Benediction,

las L. Parker, Friends missionary, who is in Richmond after three years of service in the state of Tamaulipas. "There seems to be a general confidence in the administration, and we now go about anywhere we please. Our group of course never goes armed, even when we go into the mountains. Trains are now running all night long, and the armored cars have been removed. "I cannot, however, spsak from personal knowledge of other sections of the country, as I have been too busy with missionary work in my own state. Mr. Parker is to be in Mexico City this next year as a representative of the American Friends Service committee working for a better understanding between Mexico and the United States.
