Indiana today than there has beeni In nXy recollection, and all of this is certain to crop out in the fall campaign. I hope, as a Republican, that this situation will not be complicated by an excessive protective tariff law," remarked a state official today.' Given a little encouragement, and the proposal for a state bonus for Indiana' veterans of the World war threatens to become the important issue of the campaign, it was. admitted by leaders of both parties. Up to this time the ex-service men in Indiana have not united in a demand for a state bonus and the leadera of both parties are hopeful that this will not come about. They agree that the condition of the state's finances is too weakened to stand the strain of a bonus. "It is improbablo that either party will voluntarily go to the people with a proposal for the payment of a bonus to Indiana veterans.
