The American Legion In compliance with a request from the national body, Harry Ray post of the American Legion will conduct a campaign on Saturday, July 1, to increase its membership. The legion is composed of men and women who served in the United States army, navy, marines and army nurse corps between April 16, 1917, and Nov. 11, 1918. It has more than 11,000 posts with a membership of more than 1,000,000. The work of Harry Ray post in behalf of the former soldiers and sailora of this community has been commendable. It has served them in a self-sacrificing spirit and has given relief and comfort where it was needed most. It has not confined its work to members of the post, but has helped many former soldiers who are not affiliated with it; in fact, most of

its work, officers say, has been among non-members. Former soldiers and sailors who are not members will be serving a good cause by joining next Saturday. The legion has been very active in protecting the interests of disabled veterans, in obtaining compensation, vocational training, and financial adjustments of many kinds which might have been long delayed or entirely overlooked. Comrades of these men will be doing a patriotic service by becoming actively affiliated with the body. ; . The legion post is a clearing house and centralized organization to handle this matter. No other agency exists here for that purpose. Until the legion post took over this work, long delays and many cruel misunderstandings marked many cases. The post soon organized this department so effectively that promptness and speed characterized all its transactions. Besides doing this for members and nonmembers, the post helped many ,a former service man whose family was in need of financial assistance. It has been as unselfish and generou in this respect as its members were patriotic during the war period. No former sailor or soldier will make a mistake by joining the legion. It is his best friend, the only organized body to protect his interests and to further his. welfare.

TODAY'S TALK By George Matthew Adams, Author of "You Can," "Take It,"

'Up"

"MOTHER O'MINE" I have been thinking about the great unrest in -the world. And I have been believing that a lot of it would be cured if only a great crowd of new mothers might be imported into the world. For, you see, a mother is able to cure everything. From the little tot who bumps his head and gets great big fat "tiss" that immediately heals the hurt, to the strong man who goes to his work in life after the benediction of a mother's last kiss does this marvelous influence mold and make worth while every effort that a human being is able to perform. It's the "Mother o'Mine" thought that embodies the noblest impulses of which we are capable. I have in mind a wonderful mother who sent her boy out Into the world with the words: "My boy come back SOMEBODY!" Through the winding paths and ways of strife and pain and sorrow, as well as of joy, does the spirit of a mother follow and lead. A mother never runs out of love or forgiveness or anything that is helpful. Long years ago my Mother went away. But she comes back with the opening of every day to tell me what to do. And all that I am of wisdom or of good, I feel that I owe most to her. "Mother o' Mine" you look so beautiful to me, where you are! The stars keep telling me about you. It's the mothers who are going to bring this world out all right in the end!

Owing to illness Mr. Adams is unable to write his Daily Talks this week. He is taking this opportunity to reprint for his readers six Talks for which he has received many inquiries since their first publication, in the hope that all of his readers as well as those who have written him, will enjoy seeing them again The Editor.

Three members of the council meat inspection committee held a session at the city building at which several interested parties were present and gave testimony. No action of any kind, except hearing evidence, .was taken at the meeting. Other meetings were to be called before any final action was taken. It was undrstood that H. Holzapfel, superintendent and owner of the

city slaughtering house, would make out a new application blank for govern

New York and Boston may remember little of this particular Healy, for 47 western winters have whipped about him since the west captured him ia '75. And his father with him. They settled on Padre Island in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Corpus Christi. The elder man was in charge of a cattle ranch established by a New York syndicate. Here George Healy won his spurs. He was initiated as a cowboy. He wore a Colt automatic on his hip and

An engineering company, which was laying a railroad in Alaska, had occasion to employ a number of foreigners on grade work. In some cases, these men, through the scarcity of more competent workers, became subforemen, who were instructed to take part of their particular part of the job in case of the death or illness of their immediate superiors. It was from one of these that the company received the following telegram: "Boss dead. What to do?" "If you are sure he is dead, bury him. Will send another boss," wired back the company. The next day. they received a telegram from the obliging alien: ".11 right, buried him. Made sure he was quite dead. Hit him on head with shovel."

Saturday, July 1 Loyal Chapter No. 49, O. E. S.; stated meeting.

American Women Are Careless Women are too apt to overestimate their strength and overtax it. When feeling well they take unnecessary chances, which in the long run cause much pain and trouble. Wet feet, exposure to cold, lifting heavy burdens and overwork will often develop troubles which cause no end of suffering. Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound is the unfailing remedy in such cases. Thousands of American women will testify to this fact who have regained health and strength by its use. If you are suffering it will pay you to grive it a fair trial. Advertisement. " . : , . -

attacks of pain that doubled me up like a jack-knife and I was as yellow as a gold piece. No medicine or doctors helped me and I was really at death's door. A lodge brother advised me to try Mayr's Wonderful Remedy,

It is a simple, harmless preparation that removes the catarrhal mucus from the intestinal tract and allays the inflammation which causes practically all stomach, liver and intestinal ailments, including appendicitis.
