GIANTS GRAB ANOTHER ONE IN ELEVENTH HOUR NEW YORK, June 26. The New York Giants, who have developed a habit of grabbing eleventh-hour victories, snatched another brand from the burning yesterday. The veteran Davy Robinson, pinch-hitting for Ryan.dealt the blow that brought across the winning run In the ninth, after the Braves had driven Nehf to cover and tied the count with three runs in the previous inning. The fi nal score was 4 to 3. Jotnny Couch pitched Cincinnati to Its third straight victory over Pittsburg and the Reds climbed over Chicago and the Pirates to occupy fourth place. The St. Louis Cardinals lam basted Vic Aldridge, Cub star, and on 11 to 1. while Brooklyn squeezed out a 3-2 decision over the Phillies in 11 innings. Ken Williams, St. Lbul3 slugger, staged a few spectacular fielding tricks. Instead of pulling his home) run act, while the Browns, witn uixic Davis in great form, blanked the De troit Tigers, 5 to 0, and evened the four game series. Chicago gained a former hold on fourth place in the American league by winning its fourth straight from Cleveland, 4 td 3, in ten Innings. Tris Speaker was put out of the game for disputing .a decision by Umpire Ed Walsh. Zachary outpitched Bryan Harris of the Athletics, and Washington won, 2 to 1. DEMPSEY AND WILLS TO BE MATCHED TODAY NEW YORK, June 26. Articles for a contest between Jack Dempsey, world heavyweight boxing champion, and Harry Wills, negro challenger, may be signed today or tomorrow. Dempsey reached New York yesterday after a trip from his home in Los Angeles, declaring his willingness to fight "anybody, anytime, anywhere." Coincident with his arrival. Promoter Tex Rickard announced negotiations for the proposed match with Wills were nearing a definite stage. Managers of both boxers have expressed their willingness to sign for the contest and apparently only certain details remain to be Ironed out. fc NEW YORK, June 26. Jack Brit ton, veteran weiterweigm duxibb champion, and. Benny Leonard, lightweight champion will meet tonight in a 15 round contest to a decision at the New York Velodrome. Britton's welterweight title will be at stake, but Leonard will enter the ring several pounds over the lightweight limit, his championship will not be risked. The lightweight king is ten years younger than Britton and the latter has two inches advantage in height, but otherwise there Is little diner ence in physical measurements. Bartonia Defeats Lynn Independents Sunday, 7-0 LYNN, June 26. Bartonia defeated the local Lynn Independents Sunday in a shut-out game, 7 to 0. Pitcher Arnett was hit bv a pitched ball in the third Inning while at bat and had to be removed to his home. He sustained a deep cut in the head. Runyon was forced to take the mound for Lynn and worked to the best of his ability. Ten hits were garnered by Bartonia, while the Independents were collecting four. Greenville was shut-out here Sunday by Eldorado, 7 to 0. The visitors were unable to score due to the good work of Johnson, left fielder for Eldorado. He went back of the tarbed-wire fence to hold Ratliff on third, after the latter had hit a hard drive to left, which looked good for a homer. Worley pitched a four hit game and struck-out seven men, while his teammates collected 12 hits off Ratliff. Ratlin struck-out five local batters during the fray. The assertion that labor demands beer and light wines was declared to be "un founded," by. Wayne B. He was renominated for Congress on the Republican ticket by a majority of 11.900, by a vote of three to one on the Democratic ticket, "and unanimously on the prohibition party ticket. t "Seventy-eight United States Senators and a majority of Congressmen come from states where the state itself has prohibition even one per cent beer A senator or congressman who voted against the standard maintained by his own state for law enforcement does not deserve the support of lawabiding citizens. Senators like the senior Senator from Missouri, who have fought law enforcement measures and spent their time is abusing and misrepresenting - those measures enacted for the public good, have forfeited all claim on good citizens. " Establish Two Facts "Thus far we have established two facts: Prohibition enforced is a success, and even when only partially enforced it is better than the license system. The following results prove it: Drunkenness has decreased more than one-half. Those opposed to prohibition admitted, after a survey made recently, that comsumption of beverage liquor has fallen off 70 per cent and that the number of drinkers Is reduced over 17,000,000. Crimes related to liquor have fallen off materially, and all existing crime induced by drink proves our contention that alcohol provokes crime and should be eliminated. Nineteen hundred and twenty-one was the healthiest year in the United States. Liquor as a contributing factor in poverty is now negligible. Over $2,500,000,000 wasted for drink has been turned into useful channels. Bank deposits and savings have increased, and the net increased wealth of the country last year was $8,000,000,000. "The attempt of the liquor interests to nullify thi3 law is a challenge to red-blooded Americans. The higher the individual in social or business life, the greater the responsibility that should be attached when he defies the law of the land. ( "The Eighteenth Amendment was adopted by twenty - three - twentyfourths of the states, a greater proportion than ever voted for the ratification of any other amendment. It is therefore entitled to proportionately greater respect."
