TO CHANGE SWEDEN'S EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM TO MEET NEW NEEDS STOCKHOLM, June 19. Sweden's educational system today faces reorganization , the purpose of which is to place full educational advantages within close reach of every child in the land, irrespective of tho child's social standing in the community. Under the new plan all of Sweden's public schools, from the elementary grades to the universities, will be co educational. At present only the elementary schools receive both sexes. The Swedish school commission pur poses to open the "realskola" and the "gymnasium" to girls as well as boys An important change will be the elimination of several subjects as com pulsory and the consecration of indi vidual students on a smaller group of subjects, logically related to the occupation or profession which most interests them. Students will be per mitted to start specializing much earlier than at present. It is now proposed that virtually the whole educational work of the country with the exception, of afew private b hools be "taken over by the state. Tuition fees will be practically eliminated, and students will not be encumbered with tho study of non-essential subjects. The estimated cost of the new system will be about $1,000,C00 a year more than at present. It is proposed also to establish a school, new to the Swedish system of education, to be known as "lyceum," which in seven years will take a pupil directly from the elementary school to matriculation for the universities. Among the languages offered under the new plan will be Latin and Greek, and three modern languages in addition to Swedish namely, English, Fiench and GermanSAY LIQUOR CAUSED START OF KISSING From the Detroit News la the early days of Rome wino was offered a3 a sacrifice It was improper for the vestal virgins or any of the matrons to appropriate any of the libation. T6 ascertain where guilt lay when some of the wine was missing It became the cu?tom for men to smell their kinswomen's "breaths. One thing leads to another, and before they knew it the Romans had invented one of the most popular of human institutions that of kissing. There has never been a date fixed for the origin of this custom, but it Is first mentioned in the memories of Pomponious, who presented his lips to be kissed by the deserving nobles, his hands to be less deserving and his feet to the least deserving and least noble. Even today with all the modern methods of distributing knowledge the practice of kissing 13 unknown among the darkest Africans. In fact, among the remote, barbaric races the pleasures of kissing are little understood. Erasmus notes that on his visit to

When a visitor en tered a house he kissed the father and mother, ttie sons and daughters, the dog, the cat and anything else that was kissable. This was repeated when departing. In France, Montagne remarks, "any Jack with three lackeys" was privilege to kiss almost any woman. And at every fashionable fete each dance figure ended with a kiss. It is reported that Louis XII was supposed to have kissed every woman in Normandy. In 1S50 or so, kissing invaded Prussia, where it soon reached the proportions of a national epidemic. Kisses were bestowed at every conceivable opportunity. And the Czar was compelled to kiss as a form of official recognition. NEGRO ASPIRANT FOR OHIO GOVERNORSHIP IN EARNEST, HE SAYS CLEVELAND, Ohio, June 19. Defending his candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor against the charge that it is a mere decoy and aimed at encompassing the defeat of Harvey-C. Smith, secretary of state, at the primaries, Harry Clay Smith, the first negro officially to aspire to that high office, asserts that he is act ing in good faiA. More than that, he informs negro Republican voters in Ohio that if they will stand together his nomination Is a possibility. In 1920, he reminds them, he received more than 61,000 votes for secretary of state. . Concerning his entrance under the primary election law, the candidate says specifically: "Afro-Americans alone are responsible for our candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor. For weeks, yes, for months, from all part3 of the state has come tho call and insistent demand that we stand as a candidate. During that time we canvassed the situation carefully, consid ered all phases of the matter and finally deciaed to accede to the wishes of the great majority of our people and enter the race. It is our candidacy, pure and simple, and with tho assistance of friendly white voters, thousands of whom stood with us two yeers ago and will help us again, there is no good reason why we should not be victorious at the primaries in August." As for the assertion made by Judge Smith that "voters might be confused by the similarity of our names," the retort is made that voters other than the judge's supporters might be victims of this confusion. Undoubtedly, he asserts. Judge Smith in 1920 received many votes that were not intended for him. f The formation of a solid phalanx of Afro-Americans is pleaded for and if the 150,000 negro voters are loyal to the blood, he says of the result: "If we do this, no power except that of Divine Providence can keep us from the victory we seek. Negroes who are wearing white men's political rings in their noses must be made to see the light, and the assistance of our real white friends must be sought assiduously."

MONEY

Most people are to be found on the lower rounds of the ladder, but the greatest amount of squeezing is usually done nearer the top. The more money some men have, the more eager they are to increase their fortunes. All the money he may get or give will not make happy the man who has not earned it fairly; No one can bribe life's blessings to abide with him by hiding his wrongs from the view of others. There are three classes of people in the world: those who have money, those whom money has, and the ones who haven't airy money and don't know how to get it. The glitter of gold is the most blinding glare In the world.
