its Ice there are thousands of grass
hoppers of an extinct specter, which must have been flying over the mountains in living clouds when they were caught in snowstorms and killed, later to be preserved for countless years In solid ice. The glacier which lies In great cirques at the head of Rosebud River, is comparable to any of the big gla-

of the lull to repair and Improve their stations. This season also Is the "open season" for hunting static eliminators, and many amateurs are on the trail. Use of an Inside aerial or a coil aerial Is the first and easiest course, but

wire in a shallow trench or even on the surface of the ground. The ground wire should run in the direction of the station to which the station is listening and should preferably be several hundred feet long. Novices will do well to remember that the longer their antenna and the
more wires in it, the greater will be!
their trouble with atmospheric disturbances. The substitutes mentioned will not give as loud 6lpnals as the usual antenna, but may be more satisfactory for summer use through the elimination or lessening of static, Eaton Amateurs The Chicago Westinghouse station Is being heard regularly by Willard Overholser. of Eaton, with his two-
county and experiencing strong p-1 stage variometer set. This Is a Bta-
poaition from the county agent, which culminated in an investigation and
condemnation by the farm bureau, he spent one day in Wayne county, but without securing, any customers. Dr. Nolan is now selling a prepara
tion called R. X. 1000, characterized by the state veterinarian as probably
tlon not always received In this section. Overholser also is getting longwave stations up to 6,000 meters. Reception of Newark, N. J., over a one-tube simple circuit set is reported by Martin and Marvin Penland. Stations of H. Riley Spitler and Orval ' Denlinger were tuned Jn and
identical with Noxine, which was 98 1 listened to the race results at the In-
per cent water, and possibly slightly antiseptic. The price is $20 a gallon.
The veterinarian recommends use of his remedy particularly in cases of cholera infected herds which have bein vaccinated, after showing signs of infection, it is understood. Thus all hogs which are not saved by the vaccine treatment will have died before being given the new remedy, while hogs on which the vaccine has t?,ken effect will recover, but th9 new remedy will receive the credit.

NEWCASTLE, Ind , June 13. At a reunion of twins held In Newcastle recently, the Young twins, Sam and George, of Rushville, 75 years of- age, took the prize for being the oldest male twins on the grounds. BELIEVE FOOD YIELD IN RUSS THIS YEAR WILL BRING RELIEF
(By Associated Press) MOSCOW, June 13. Food is the keynote of many Soviet Russian prob-
jltms; hence the crop prospects for ! September, 1922, are of the greatest
interest. There is reason to believe that the yield will be greater than in
j the famine year of 1921. but further
man this, no one can prophesy. If the 1922 harvest is fair, Russian industry may show considerable growth after September. Factories would then be able to provide their workers with food; the lumber Indus
try would improve if the woodcut
ters were able to get rations, and their activities would see the opening of saw mills.
As the meager food stocks in the provisions become more and more de
pleted, provincial Russians are com
ing to Moscow to sell their belong-

ings to buy food in the city markets. Reversing the process of a year ago, when city dwellers went to the provinces for food, now the provincials find that Moscow, where free trade has doveloped much more than in
the country, has stocks available for all with money. Moscow's progress toward surface prosperity during the past few months has made it a startling contrast to less fortunate provincial towns.
TOOK THREE YEARS
TO CIRCLE GLOBE From the Detroit News Juan Sebastian Del Cano, a BasqtM sailor, was the first man to be abl to lay claim to the honor of havini circumnavigated the globe. Del Cane
J went to Seville seeking employment ir
1518, and in the same year Fernand Magellan, an experienced Portugest mariner, arrived In Spain with an of fer to the emperor, Charles V, to dis cover a westward route to the Eas Indies. The proposal was accepted and a squadron of five vessels wai equipped. The fleet left Seville, Aug 10, 1519, and Sept. 6, 1522, Del Cane arrived at San Lucar, the port of Se ville. He had set sail from the sam port three years before, had traversed according to the ship's reckoning over 42,000 miles. Del Cano was re warded-with a pension of 600 ducat.' a year for life, and a coat of arms with a globe for crest..
Farm Labor Demand Is Exceeding Supply A complete return to "before the war" labor conditions apparently is shown by an unfilled demand for farm labor, reported by County Agent J. L. Dolan. Mr. Dolan, who maintains a farm labor employment service in connection with his office, has positions for four men, both single and married, on farms in various parts of Wayne county, for which he has no laborers registered. He states that he will be glad to receive applications from any experienced farm laborers desiring positions.

ment of numerous radio and auto fans of Eaton. For the benefit of the big crowd that gathered, Mr. Denlinger used four 6tages of amplification. Wireless Theatre Music A theatre in Des Moines, Iowa, Is being equipped to receive wireless music for the benefit of its audiences, the broadcasts from Denver, Chicago and Pittsburgh being relied upon. It Is suggested that musicians' unions may
object as did the actors' union, to such use of music for which the performers can receive no pay. This method will give as good music as is usually found in a small movie house, but there may be some difficulty in fitting the music to the scenes, getting jazz in a death scene, for instance. A theatre in Shelbyville, Ind., has followed this example, also. Train Message Service Communication, not only between trains and stations,' but between trains is the subject of experiments on the Big Four railroad now. A Bteward on the limited running between Cleveland and Cincinnati has equipped his train with a listening set and allows the passengers to listen in on radio broadcasts. Another train is being equipped with a sending set and will communicate with the other while both are on their run. The listening installation is making use of a rectangular antenna stretched around the roof of the car and about a foot above it. It Is about 50 feet In length and three feet wide. Novel Receiving Set An annual receiving set has been exhibited at recent radio shows, in the shape of a parlor lamp, with a loud
speaking horn for a base, and the instruments composing the set, hidden by the shade. Radio For Convalescents J. H. Harrison, .of Eldorado, is authority for the information that a Cincinnati hospital is installing four wireless receiving sets for its patients. Wires will be run along the walls and patients may plug in as they desire. Loud speakers can not be used because of the annoyance to some of the nervous cases. Ring Up On Radio A device for calling up any station desired by radio, without its being necessary for the operator of that station to be "on," is announced by a French inventor, L. Chaveau. This invention makes use of the magnetic relay, just as is used in controlling auto sand boats by radio. The relay at
the listening station is set to be operated by the call for that station. Any ,' station wishing to call has only to send j out the proper call, the last dot or dash !
closing the relay and operating a signaling circuit, which may ring a bell
or give any desired signal. A mechanical sender is used by the calling station to Insure proper timing of the call with the relay. Foreign Telephony While this country still leads in the
radio industry, thanks to the liberal, policy allowed the amateur, many for-j eign countries are making long steps j ahead. Germany is equipping trains ! with radio telephones. Sweden is link- J ing up the land telephones with radio for long distance work. Even Africa has a large radio station communicat-! ing with European stations. England j and Egypt also have completed a radio I communicating system. Russia has in-1 8ugurated a regular system with Swe-1 den and is completing a new station ! which can Communicate with Germany, England and Denmark. Australia has t a radio company which announces a
ravitc suwu iu ue eiarteu. oy wmcn messages can be sent to England at a third the cost by cable.
