would make defeat least harmful to them. "Even when I met Johnson it was the same. I had no eagerness to 'kill' him. I might have rushed and torn into him and tried from the start to pulverize him. But what was the use? Knew He Could Win "I knew I'd win. The fight was scheduled for 45 rounds. I was in perfect condition; Johnson wain't. I could have gone 100 rounds that day. I knew Johnson couldn't knock me out and that sooner or later he'd wear himself out. Then it would need only a few stiff punches to finish him. "When I whipped Johnson my fighting mission was completed. I had said if the chance ever came I'd bring the title back to the white race. I did. Afterward, of course,' I wanted to keep the championship every champion does but with a certain self imposed duty performed, my interest in the game waned. "It's true that I underestimated Dempsey In Toledo. I didn't know anyone could hit with 6uch terrific power as Jack used that day. My

Arthur Bennett, 63 Years Old, Dead of Paralysis SUGAR VALLEY, Ohio, June 12. Arthur Bennett, 63 years old, died Saturday afternoon at his home near Sugar Valley, Ohio. Death resulted from paralysis. He Is survived by two sisters, Mrs. George Brusher of Richmond, and Mrs. Robert Wright, of Eldorado; one brother, Mose Bennett, of Sugar Valley. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock from the church at Sugar Valley. Burial will be at Eaton, Ohio. 1,800 Farmers Attend Purdue Field Meetings LAFAYETTE, Ind., June 12. Upwards of 1,800 farmers attended the field meetings held the past. week on three of the southern Indiana experimental tracts operated by the agricultural experiment station of Purdue uni versity. They gathered at the fields at North Vernon, Scotsburg and Bedford to inspect the experimental work being done in various lines of agriculture, and to hear explanations of the work from the men in charge. More than 300 attended the North Vernon meeting which was held Tuesday, June 6. Here the results of tile drainage experiments were given along with fertilizer tests. Various treatments of the soil were explained. The best treatment yielded 77 bushels of corn to the acre last year where un treated it yielded IS bushels. Similar information was given out at the Scottsburg meeting which was held the following day, June 7. The Bedford meeting was held June 8. Suspend Japanese School Boys For Insurrection (By Associated Press) KYOTO, Japan, June 12. The boys of the high school of Kyoto who passed a vote of "Want of Confidence" in their principal were suspended for a week. This "drastic step" as the Japanese papers describe the action of the school authorities is unusual in the frequent "strikes" of school boys in Japan, they usually being settled by compromise in which the boys gener ally secure the enforcement of some of their demands. The non-confidence vote in Kyoto was based on the alleged "despotism of the prinsipal in discharging old professors. As a conference between the principal and the scholars could not come to an agreement the suspension of the boys was, decided upon.
