All rights of republication of special dispatches herein are also reserved. The Change in Time The change in time i3 effective Sunday morning at 2 o'clock. It behooves residents of the city to moveiahead the hands of their clocks and watches one hour Saturday night so that confusion may be obviated on Sunday morning. Church services on Sunday will be regulated by the new time. ' On Monday public offices, business houses and private offices will open and close according to the new time. Railroad and interurban service will move according to the old time. Persons intending to travel should remember this important fact. Endless confusion will exist for the first few days unless citizens accommodate themselves to the change at once. The best way to do it is by changing the timepieces on Saturday night and remembering that train service will be continued on the old time. Business men believe that there is a distinct
advantage in moving up the clock an hour dur
ing the summer months. Dayton and Cincinnati are some of the cities nearby that have adopted the new system and seemingly are satisfied with
the experiment. Riehmond will not be discom-
Senator Watson's Protest Irrespective of the merits in the contention of Senator Watson that foreign renjresentetives in this county should not make afldresses pertaining to our affairs, the fact remains that he called attention to an important point. The United States is very tolerant with respect to free speech, entirely too much so in many particulars. From many quarters have ;ome intimations and even charges that foreign governments are trying to influence public opinion and shape legislation. This is being done by propaganda and other means. Representatives of foreign governments have 30 right to express their opinions publicly upon legislation pending in the American congress for
the purpose of influencing the people or the mem
bers of the national legislature.
The foreign representative against whom Senator Watson directed his attack may not have been quoted correctly, but nevertheless the principle upon which Senator Watson based his contention is absolutely correct. If our foreign policy is directed from the premise that we are not directly interested in European affairs, by the same token we hold that European countries should not interfere in our domestic affairs or try to shape pending legislation by the utterances of their representatives. Senator Watson has sounded a warning which foreign governments, whose representatives have been prone to talk too much, will heed.

BOOK PALSMIP To me each day adds new love and glory to my hooks. I cannot say that I read more as the years advance but I think much more on what I read. So that each beloved hook grows in nearness and becomes more a companion to me. As though my library had favorite paths, I am led to my books and each path leads me to a particular book for the mood in which I find myself. I like to open a book to a passage that has inspired me in other days and I like to get new viewpoints. I find each time an occasion for inward joy for a great thought is much like a sunset, which is never the same though always full of Interest and beauty. A book is the essence of the best that a man is, no matter what his reputation may be.' And so it is that we usually find the real man In his book. All about me are closed books. Most of those who wrote them are no longer moving in this world.. Yet how real and living these thinkers as the pages of their books are turned! How near you come to know even the little intimacies that gathered about them, as tiny flowers hug the rock which protects them. I never finish a book but I see. with my mind's eye the favorite paths, haunts and hobbies of him who wrote. There is nothing quite so fine as palship with a book. Sett'e in your favorite chair, or walk out into the thick woods and there take from your pocket one of these pals. What serenity of soul and what calmness of spirit as the thoughts gush forth like water from a cool spring! The sadly lonely man is he who has never known the love of a book. .

After Dinner Stories Children are very impressionable. A little boy had been reading "The Fair Maid of Perth," or some such hiftnrical work of fiction, and he was standing disconsolately one day in front of a tobacco shop. Sonny, ye look troubled." tn old woman said.. "Anythin' I can do for ye?" "Hist, mother!" And the urchin grandiloquently placed a penny in her withei-ed hand. "Mother, old Another," he went on. "thou canst indeed be of signal service .an' thou wilt. Seest yon tobacco shop? Then take thee this bronze coin and bid the churl within to give thee a cigarette, and eke a match therefor. Be secret, mother, and betray me not. or thy old blood shall answer for'L I will await thee here. And now, beldame, begone."

Musings for the Evening A CITY MAN'S IDEA OF A PERFECT DAY He is called at 6 a. m. He goes back to sleep until 7. He arises and chases the neighbor's kids off the fire escape. He discovers that his watch is twenty minutes slow. He swallows a cup o scalding coffee and beats it. He dangles on a hand-hold all the way down town. He climbs up on his stool three minutes late. He adds up another man's profits until 12 o'clock. He hopes to meet someone who will invite him to lunch. He meets no such party. He lunches at a one-arm cafe and goes back to work. He gets through work at 5 o'clock. He inserts himself into a street car with a shoehorn. He sways on a hand-hold until his back aches. He tries to fight his way out when the car reaches his stop. He gets as far as the door, which slams shut in his face. He rides on to the next stop and walks back. He gets home and finds he has forgotten the knitting yarn. He makes a trip to a store In the neighborhood. He finds there is no such store in the neighborhood. He walks to some neighborhood that
has one. He gets back to dinner at half-past 7. He hears from his wife that He must take her and the kids to a movie.
He declares he will not take them to
a movie.
He takes them to the movie. He returns home and listens to the neighbor's piano player. He gets to sleep at 2 o'clock. He does it all over again the next day.

A Tough Situation "My wife and four children were dependent on me for their living. My stpmach and liver trouble of five years had made me despondent, as no medicine seemed to help me, and I was gradually wasting away. It was a tough situation. My cousin in Columbus wrote me about having taken Mayr's Wonderful Remedy and advised me to try it. I am now feeling better than for fifteen years." It is a simple, harmless preparation that removes the catarrhal mucus from the intestinal tract and allays the inflammation which causes practically all stomach, liver and intestinal ailments, including appendicitis. The Face in the Mirror Your face, does it wear the contented expression of good health, or are the features drawn and pallid? In the latter case, your story is read by all who see you, and what woman of spirit wants to be pitied for her physical condition? There is a way to get the nervous, tired lines out of your face and the slump out of your body. The use of that standard remedy, Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound, will strengthen the nerves and tone up the system to resist that excessive fatigue. Advertisement.
