URGE SPORTSMANSHIP BE USED !N CATCHING FISH THIS SUMMER
NEW YORK HONORS BRAVEST OF BRAVE
John Holaday, cretary of the recntly re-organized Fish and Game association of YTayjie county, is in re- . ceipt of a communication from the department of conr.ervation, state of Indiana, asking the co-operation of the public in observing the rules of sport in fishing, as a matter of fairness to the fish. The communication in part follows: "The time is approaching when
' thousands of Indif.na residents will !
leave their homes for the annual vacation. Some of them are planning now where they will go and what they will do. There cat be no doubt that fishing Is one of "he most alluring, healthful and satisfying of all recreations, and perhaps more men, women and children in Indiana than ever be- . fore, will go fishin? somewhere during the next three or four months. Luckily for Indiana residents there Is " hardly a stream or lake in our state "vhich does not cot tain fish of some kind. The Question is often asked, where shall I go to spend a vacation and find good fishing? What Is the answer? "Indiana has 30 big rivers. 60 large , creeks and over 200 fine1 lakes. How many of these beautiful waters have you fished? Count them and note how many. It will take one many yeare to fish them all, and it is doubtful if any one single person ever has. Every summer thousands of our residents go to other states to fish, under the impression that our state offers nothing attractive to the angler. "What do they actually know relative to fishing conditions in Indiana? The knowledge they have comes from heresay. Relatively speaking, fishing for black bass, blue gills, crappie and rock bass is now as good, if not O, better, in our state, than in any other. Why then should people spend time and money in other states? Make 4,600 Arrests. "Since this division was created in April, 1919, over 4,600 arrests have been made for violations of the game and fish laws. The illegal taking of fish with seines, nets and spears has been stopped. Fish formerly netted have been left for hook and line fishing. This, with a closed season during the spawning period, has provided better fishing for black bass and blue t;ills. "The possibilities of making fishing in Indiana waters still better, are open lo the people during the next three months, for it is then that most fishing is done. If every grown-up will make it his business to play fair with the fish, not to take more than he actually needs, and teach the younger generation to do the same, he will , help the cause mightily. The example set by a father has its effect on his children. Allowing children to
catch undersized game fish and string
them is waste, even if not an unlaw
ful act. By striving to catch the big ones and not to measure one's success by numbers alone is setting the right example and teaches conservation. "Fish laws to be observed must be
known, and their purpose understood. A person not familiar with the various kinds of fish and how they may be caught, is apt to violate the law. Fffort i3 being made by this division lo acquaint the people with the fish laws. It cannot reach them all. This leaves a way open to you and your members to spread a very useful propaganda, also to educate the oncoming generation."

The road, not far f rom-New Brighton, Looked smooth and very inviting; He stepped on the gas, Another auto to pass, But mussed up the road, in alightin'l The strange thing about- kids getting struck and run over by autos on the street isn't that it happens, but that the drivers try to shift the blame on the kids! "Five minutes to wait at a grade crossing may seem a bit long, but It's a bit shorter than eternity!" says my friend Tim, the truck driver, while ha was passing me today. These people who can't tell wild strawberry leaves from poison ivy, ought to buy their berries at the grocery! They are some fellers working around factories and such places that think "Safety First" means for the foreman or somebody else to always be yelling "Look out!" at them!

Drove to Victory With
Oil-Regulating Piston Rings JIMMY MURPHY, winner of the 500-mile race, drove to victory with PERFECT CIRCLE Oil-Regulating Piston Rings in his motor. These rings have always been noted for the remarkable saving they effect in the oil consumption of a motor. And the record-breaking performance of Murphy's car proves that they provide POSITIVE LUBRICATION as well. PERFECT CIRCLE Oil-Regulating Rings prevent oil from passing into the combustion chamber. They are the only "oil rings" that lubricate the cylinder walls, without scraping. If you want to get 1,500 miles to the gallon of oil and the best possible performance, have your garage man install them in your motor. i Distributed by JOHN J. HARRINGTON i Richmond, Indiana.
