COUNTY CONVENTION
OF C. E. DELEGATES AT EATON SATURDAY
EATON, Ohio, June 2. Christian Endeavorers of Preble county -will gather here Saturday for their annual county convention, the sessions of which 'will be conducted in tha court house public assembly hall. The meeting will "consist of a morning, afternoon and evening session. The meeting will open at 9 o'clock and an hour will be devoted to registration. The Rev. Frank U Freet, general secretary Ohio C. E. union, will address ach of the three sessions of the convention. Marlowe R. Kersey, of Dayton, will addTess the evening session. Miss Marie Gregson, Miss
Helen Gregson and Miss Anita Greg-
son, all of Cincinnati, have places on
the afternoon program. A number of
local county people will appear in various capacities at each session. At the opening session Albert Harris, Eaton, will deliver an address of welcome. The Rev. D. G. Pleasant,
Campbellstown, will respond. A part
of the afternoon session will be taken
up with appointment of committees, business matters, etc. Committee reports will be received In the evening session and election and installation of officers will take place. Music for the convention will be supplied by the variour church Christian Endeavor societies in the county. The Endeavor society registering the largest number of members during the convention will be awarded a special prize. - The Rev. A. C. Bamhart, Eaton, is
president of the county union. Fay Gardner, Eaton, is secretary. Expect Big Shrinkage. Shrinkage of three million dollars in the persoaal tax duplicate of Preble county is indicated at this time, although complete returns are not in, S. C. Fowler, taxing deputy in the office of County Auditor S. C. Hunt, says. Final returns or reports from Eaton and West Alexandria and the town
ships of Washington, Lanier and Mon-'
roe are the only taxing sub-divisions remaining out. They are among those making heaviest returns. The estimate is based upon comparisons with last year, from returns in at this time. A loss of three million dollars in valuation would mean an average decrease of 15 percent. Harrison township shows a loss of $111,000 and Jackson township a loss of a trifle over $100,000. Get Bridge Contracts. Stayton Bros., Eldorado, were successful bidders for the contract for construction of four bridges on the Eaton-Hamilton pike, a state-county highway. Their bid was 147,487.15, which was $1,400 under the next lowest bidder and approximately $6,000 under the engineer's estimate. The contract was awarded by the state highway commissioner in Columbus. Five bidders sought the contract. Have Special Privilege Because of the fact that Eaton high school is a member of the North Central association of colleges, universi
ties and secondary schools, the 30 students graduated this week from the local high school are eligible to enter without examination the best colleges and universities in 18 states. The association embraces approximately 200 colleges and universities and 1,400 secondary schools. The requirements of the association are said to demand a high standard of excellence. The Eaton school is the only one In Preble county holding membership in the organization. Child Takes Poison Physicians are watching closely the condition of Donald, four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Miller, East Main street, who, it is said, swallowed one of four bichloride of mercury tablets he found in the family home. Dr.
L. R. Pryor and Dr. G. W. Flory employed heroic measures and remained
several hours with the child. At this time his condition appears satisfactory but the poison Is of so treacherous character that the full effects cannot be determined for some time, it is said. To Entertain Officers. Washington grange will be host Saturday in Eaton to officers of the various grange organizations in Preble county at a conference, at which matters of importance will be discussed. There are a dozen or more eranea
units in th county and they constitute j
