Hospital Day The anniversary of the birthday of Florence Nightingale, May 12, has been chosen as "Hospital Day." A more fitting choice to call attention to the work of hospitals could not have been made than the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birthday. Few of us appreciate the work which the hospitals are doing the country over. Although almost all of them are dependent upon the public for some form of support, many of them have endowments which make possible the highest kind of technique and the purchase of equipment

soon be awake to some of the things that prevent its expansion and development. ' President Harding, in a recent letter in recognition of "Hospital Day," said: "America has led the world by a long way in the development and maintenance of modern hospitals, and in this regard our facilities are far superior to those of any other country. Yet, by reason of the extraordinary demands for care of the disabled men of the World warwe are a long way from adequate equipment. I have felt that in establishing the great hospital facilities which are needed for the soldiers, we will be providing ourselves with a facility whose usefulness will continue after the soldiers have been properly cared for and discharged." We see from this that the question has its national aspects also. The federal government is perplexed in a big way with the same questions that bother every community which has a hospital of its own. "Hospital Day" will bring the importance of the question before the. public. The local conditions are questions pertaining to the cities
themselves and will be solved in the light of the

The financial worries of most of them are a handicap in the attainment of results desired by the men and women who are in daily contact with the institutions. If the public would learn to know better the necessity of a hospital in a community, it would

If "Hospital Day" succeeds in educating the public to the point of mere appreciation of a hospital, it will have accomplished something worth while. Needed improvements and changes cannot come until the public understands the why's and wherefore's of a hospital.

TODAY'S TALK By George Matthew Adams, Author of "You Can," "Take It,"

NO MATTER MOW YOU LOOK AT IT "Roaming in thought over the Universe," once wrote Walt Whitman, "I saw the little that is good steadily hastening towards immortality, and the vast all that is call'd Evil I saw hastening to merge itself and become lost and dead." No matter how you look at it, the world is growing better" for good' lives and bad dies. . And if you wiU look at everything from the standpoint of good, you will become one of the boosters of the Better World. I received a letter the other day from one of Amerlca'3 great preachers who has been a constant inspiration to me for many years. Dr. Johnston Myers of Chicago. He sent me newspaper clippings showing the church in which he had labored for around a quarter of a century, partially in ruins from a great storm. "But," wrote this great preacher, "good will come of it," I do not understand why I am able to step to my telephone a few feet from where I now write and hear the voice of one I know ana love three thousand miles away. And yet it is possible. I listen to my phonograph giving me a perfect reproduction! of the art of one who long ago went to mingle his dust with that of Mother Earth. I marvel but I do not understand. And in today's paper I read that a voice' has been sent from New York City to San Francisco by radio and the voice was clear and loud enough to be heard across a room. I do not understand. But I believe, because I have heard with my own hearing. And now again I read of a scientist who has invented a cold Ughtl Again I do not understand but I believe, and marvel. And yet the most marvelous and mystifying of all discoveries and inventions are still to be revealed! No matter how you look at it, my friend, you are living in a wonderful age and every day may grow eweeter in beauty and wider in all possibilities for you if you will but come to realize that the best and most natural way for you to grow in thought and action is to see the good in men and events, and go forward' with them.
