BEECHVOOD DANCING FLOOR IS ENLARGED; MANY CHANGES MADE
Fresh Vegetables Mean Health and Economy
An additional 50 per cent in floor space for guests, re-arrangement 'of plantings with clearing out .of underbrush and shrubbery, -and additional
Improvements to the, building, are some of the changes being made for the summer at Beechwood, formerly Jackson Park. The reconstruction Is under the direction of Harry Personett who is spending practically all his time at the park. Extension of the. porch along the west side of the pavilion and moving the refreshment counter to the outside of the building, account for the extra space. All the inside floor. will be clear except for an orchestral platform. The refreshment counter which formerly occupied 700 square feet on the dancing floor, has been moved to the north end of the, east verandah, which
nas been widened to 16 feet to accommodate Jt. .The counter 13 L-shaped with access .on both sides and a clear space of 10 feet between It and the wall. Swinging doors which can be raised out of the way, divide it from the rest of the verandah and allow it to be completely closed against bad weather. A 10 foot addition along the north side, similar to that on the west, is enclosed and will be divided into living rooms which will be occupied during the summer by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Personett and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Kolp. .The east end of this addition Joins . with the east porch where the refreshment stand is located. The extreme north end of the east porch, beyond -the" stand,' will be divided off and a check-room built in
it, a convenience not available here
to-fore. In the dancing pavilion proper, an Vorchestral stand wrill be built at the north end, between two large double
windows. This will not take up a large space but will provide accomodations that will protect the musicians from interference. Five Large Exits. Additional exits will be provided also in two double doors which will make five large exits., . The new doors will be built in where the double windows are Just to the south of the doors now on the east and west sides of the floor. The main entrance steps have been widened- also. - Improved lighting arrangements, (riving a brighter but softer illumination also are planned for the interior, with much brighter illumination in the grounds outside the pavilion as well. :r .. A priming coat of white paint has been put on the building already as the first step" in freshening it up and improving its appearance after repairs are finished. The new. managers expect to move out to their summer quarters as soon as they can be made habitable and open the park for. dancing and parties about the last or May. A number of orchestras already have been engaged for dances during the summer. With its improved attractions, Beechwood in the expectation not only of its owners but of many Wayne county citizens, will draw an attendance from parties now Journeying out of the county, or even out of the state for their amusement.
The time of the year is approaching when fresh vegetables are easily obtained, whether you raise them yourself or buy them in the market. Few persons understand the use of these foods, which are more essential to health than any others. The average housewife does not even know the names of half the vegetables she might obtain. Get acquainted with all the vegetables, their food value and how to cook them. All of this information is contained in a booklet which the Department of Agriculture has issued. Although this is a free publication, money cannot buy anything so practical and authoritative on the subject of preparing vegetables for the table. Our Washington Information Bureau will secure a copy of this booklet for any reader who fills out and mails the coupon below. Enclose two cents in
stamps for return postage, and be sure
to write your name and address clearly
