MAKE WORLD BETTER
t rlAUt, TUUIItt Ant
URGED BY SPEAKER (By Associated Press.) LAWRENCE, Kan., May 5. In his speech at the All-University convocation here today, William Allen White, editor of the Emporia Gazette, urged the 6tudenta "not to accept the order that is." ' "Theone blessed privilege of youth is to change things. The one virtue of youth is a passion for change. Nothing is as wicked as a conservative youth," said Mr. White. "When you get older conservatism may be forced upon you by the logic of events. The inexorable grind of life may file down your enthusiasm for a better world, but your first object in life should be to make this world a better world, and in order to make this world a better -world you must instill into your heart's blood the belief that this is not the best possible world. It is, as a matter of fact, a fairly gooa world, but it i3 . only good because youth like you a generation ago decided it was a bad world and should be made better, and it will be a bad world in another generation,- unless youth, like you, with all the vigor and vision and enthusiasm of youth look upon the faults of this -world, and set cut to make it better. "The first thing an engineer should do who would improve our civilization is to drench it with laughter. Laugh at it and see whatparts melt, as mere mud shams under ridicule. The play of hooting and Jeering will not crumble the stone or iron or cement; but the putty and paint and plaster will go. Instinctively youth, approaching every civilization in which it must live (lAriHap it Tho iHKalH lftllO'htar ff
fV-outh is the only thing that will break
down the false construction and monstrous pretense that the past often sets up as institutions under which men are supposed to live. Laughter is not constructive; but, being' one of the precious gifts of the high gods, laughter is revealing. Let youth laugh as it will and the world need fear no decay. TO ARRANGE CO-OP PURCHASE OF TWINE Co-operative purchase of binder twine for the 1922 small grain harvest was discussed by farmers representing eastern Wayne county at a meeting in the courthouse Thursday night, which was called by Ed Deltemeyer, secre tarv of the county farm bureau. Abington, Boston, Wayne, Webster and New Garden townships were represented at the consultation. A sam ple of Indiana state prison twine pre sented for examination was said by those present to show marked improvement over last year's product. A much more compact, tightly wound ball, was the most important feature of this year's twine. Officials of townships represented Thursday night agreed to call meetings at an early date, ascertain the needs of their communities and arrange for orders. If townships wish to take advantage of the discount offered, orders must be paid for before June 1, which makes quick action-
necessary. Co-operative purchase of threshing coal also is scheduled for consideration at the meetings, on advice of the fVbuying agency. Advices from Mr. Boyler. state that a raise in prices is to be expected for orders put in near threshing time.
GOODRICH TO GO BACK TO RUSSIA, HOOVER ANNOUNCES WASHINGTON, May 5. Ex-Governor Goodrich of Indiana will return to Russia next week to make a survey of the new Russian harvest for the American relief administration, Secretary Hoover announced today. Mr. Hoover said it was planned to obtain a definite crop estimate in the Russian famine area, as a basis for American relief activities. Cocoanut Oil Makes a Splendid Shampoo Tt If you want to keep your hair In srood condition, be careful what you wash It with. Most soaps and prepared shampoos contain too much alkali. This dries the scalp, makes the hair brittle, and is very harmful. Mulslfled cocoanut oil shampoo (which is pure and entirely Kreaseless), is much better than anything else you can use for shampooing, as this can't possibly injure the hair. Simply put two or three teaspoonfula of Mulsified in a cup or glass with a little warm water, then moisten your hair with water and rub it in. It will make an abundance of rich, creamv lather, and cleanse the hair and scalp thoroughly-. The lather rinses out easily, and removes every particle of dust, dirt, dandruff and excess oil. The hair dries quickly and evenly, and It leaves it fine and silky, bright, fluffy and easv to manage. You can get Mulsified cocoanut oil shampoo at any drug store. It is very fheap, and a few ounces Is enough to last evryone in the family for months. 1 -..He sure your drusrgist gives you MulsiV fled. Advertisement. Tennis Shoes at surprisingly low prices

MURRETTE Inspired by the Rex Ingram production of "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse," Lee Lawrie, one of the most prominent of American sculptors, recently designed a group statue In bronze of the famous riders of the Apocalypse, as a result of his witnessing a pre-review of the Metro picturization of Ibanez's internationally famous novel. This picture is now being Miown ai me Murrette theatre. i Both director and sculptor have been friends for many years, their acquaintance dating from the time when Mr. Ingram was a pupil of Mr. Lawrie's in Yale University, where the latter was a teacher of sculptor. It has been part of Mr. Ingram's method, however, in transferring the Ibanez novel to the screen, to apply much of what he learned of the art of the sculpture from Lee Lawrie to his work as motion picture director, and much of the notable excellence of the Metro production of "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" is directly traceable to Director Ingram's study of sculpture. ' WASHINGTON One comes out of the Washlgnton theatre, where the Universal comedydrama, "The Dangerous Little Demon" opened yesterday, feeling pretty well vamped. To be fair, "the demon" didn't have much chance to be like other girls. She had no mother to bring her up, and her father she couldn't trust. He had a habit of not coming home tq dinner and still wanting to appear perfect in his children's eyes. Fathers who have something on their consciences better not go to see the picture. They will feel foolish. She had too much money: too much liberty to do aa she pleased and too many mental lightweights to do it with. Her suitors assayed about onehalf per cent brains. Her father's cellar assayed about 98 per cent A-l ana 11 0 proof. Elaine Hammerstein in her latest Selznlck picture, "Why Announce A Quick and

RICHMOND The dangers were real for Lillian Gish and Richard Barthelmess when they enacted the scenes In the enow and on the ice filled river for "Way Down East," which is the sensation of the amusement world. These scenes at each performance of the Griffith production at the Richmond theatre, caused people to exclaim with concern and there is no one who does not thrill as Barthelmess, as David, in the nick of time, saves Miss Gish, as Anna Moore, from an ice floe that a moment later tumbles over a high falls. "I don't know how we did it," said Barthlemess during his visit recently at the premiere showing of D. W. Griffith's masterpiece, "and I feel as though I couldn't go through it all again. We were for days 'on location in the height of winter and the ther mometer hovered around zero and gen erally was below that point. We could not get all the scenes at once some of them were taken at night and others were, only possible when the ice began to flow. We braved pneumonia but the excitement and our enthusiasm kept us going. It was not as bad for me as it was for Miss Gish, who had to go out in the cold and snow, in a veritable blizzard, thinly clad. I wore a heavy fur coat and I was not too warm. But she did not complain and even when- her cheek was frozen, she was brave." MUftRAY Edward Jose, one of the best known motion picture directors in the world, was engaged to direct Alice Calhoun in "The Matrimonial Web," which is being shown at the Murray theatre. Mr. Jose was at one time stage director for the world-famous Sarah Bernhardt, and has acted and directed in every corner of the globe. Film authorities have ventured the opinion that this director and star combination will be an interesting one to watch, as Mr. Jose Is noted as know ing every trick of the stage and screen production, and Alice Oalhoun, who climbed to stellar heights in three years through her artistry and charm, responds to such direction with sen sational results.
