duty to perform next Tuesday, and

to the polls to vote their preference for the Republican and Democratic candidates who are seeking nomination for the various offices. This duty is one that no qualified voters "should shirk. He should not say, "I don't care who is nominated," or announce that he will be satisfied with the choice which the other voters make. , This spirit defeats the very purpose of the primary law, enacted to give the voters the opportunity of selecting their own nominees. Before Indiana had this law, the nominees too often were selected by the bosses and the designing politicians. To prevent the hand picking of nominees, the people enacted a law which placed that function in their own hands. If the people do not exercise the right the primary law will presently lose its potency,

interest will lag, and soon the bosses will suggest its abolition, in order that thereby the old power' might be restored to them. Primary elections never have succeeded in getting out a large vote, compared with the ballots cast at a regular election, but this condition of affairs does not militate against the value of the primary or its salutary effect if rightly used. "XThe forthcoming primary is an important one, not only locally but also as it affects the nominee who is to represent the party in the

general election in the struggle for the United States senatorship. The election of United States senators by the people was won only after a hard struggle. The right to nominate the candidates belongs to the people, and all of us, irrespective of party affiliations or preferential feelings toward any candidate, should go to the polls Tuesday to vote for our choice. The qualifications of the various candidates for the county offices are known to the average voter. Let him consider it a civic duty to register his preference at the polls. If poor nominees are selected, he has no one to blame but himself. Whatever choice is made Tuesday is final. Neither party can bring forth other nominees after the voters have spoken next Tuesday. Hence, the importance of exercising the right of selection at the primary election.

TODAY'S TALK By George Matthew Adams, Author of "You Can," "Take It."

TIME END OF 'THINGS THE END OF THINGS There are those who dread to face old age. I am not one of them.. To me, the end of my days is something to look forward to with distilled pleasure. - There is so much of beauty in the end of things. I am a lover of art And I am reminded of the titles of so many of my treasured pictures. Here are some of them as they come to mo from the framed friends throughout my home: "Twilight," "Evening," "The End of the Day," "Sunset," "Autumn,' "Moonrise," "The Falling Leaves." There Is to the end of things a satisfying sense of completeness. He only need fear the end of things who has not done or at least attempted to do his best. And he who never thinks of the end of things, as of himself, waters his soul with the drink of Eternity. How many a man has come to the end of his strength in the mid3t of great achievement, only to utter: "So much yet to do!" The wisest of us all sleep in ignorance. The simplest truths and facts of science are just beginning to be opened up to us. Though for thousands of years they have been as close to us as the -air we breathe. H. G. Wells, who recently visited America, left with a drooping head. To him it looks as though New York City is doomed that its decay has already set in. And this seems to be the way he looked at much in the entire world. But this evening I walked out into my yard and stood, thinking, on a rock that Is probably much older than any so-called civilization on the earth. There is really no end anywhere. What dies is but a phase of some newer and better development

But she has never learned to add. subtract or multiply; she cannot tell what chicks she's had, how many should be nigh. And silently the cat takes one; the old hen doesn't know; she's having forty kinds of fun. out where green things grow. And when the stars like glowing lamps ight up the solitude, night after night the old hen camps upon her dwindling brood. She started out with ten or more bright chicks in brave array; and now she's only three or four, and thinks it all O. K. At last some even when shadows fall, the old hen oomes along; behind her are no chicks at all she feels there's something wrong She clucks and cusses in despair, she takes FOR SKIN TORTURES Zemo, the f Clean, Antiseptic Liquid, Just What You Need Don't worry about Eczema or other skin troubles. The status of woman's enfranchisement, both in this and other countries, was referred to in detail, one of the speakers pointing out that women had certain civic rights In many European and even Asiatic countries, including the women of China, who had been given equal civic rights with men by the new Republic. It was declared that in this country, 800,000 women would vote for president of the United States in the coming elections, that full voting privileges were enjoyed by the women of six states, and that the women in one or two states, where measures are pending giving them the right of voting, might be in a position to take part in the fall elections if these measures should be approved.
