REDS BREAK LOSING STREAK BY BEATING . CARDS IN 9TH GAME
I CINCINNATI. April 27. After dropping eight straight games the Reds came through and trimmed the Cards on Redland field, Wednesday afternoon in a "wonderful game by the score of 3 to 0. Rixey was sent to the mound after dropping three games without a win. and he turned the mighty bat swingers of the St Louis gang back without a run. and allowed them only three hits. Rixey was In old time form, and master of the situation throughout the contest. He had the Cards swinging blindly at his well controlled plants; he seemed to have everything, including great speed and a dazzling curve ball. The big left bander got some wonderful support from the team In the field and catches by BurnB and Har-4 per In the outfield, and Caveney at short might have gotten him into trouble had they been allowed to go safe. Get Run In Fourth The Reds' first run came In the fourth, when Walker walked Daubert, the first man up; Duncan laced a single to center, and Bonne laid down ft perfect sacrifice and Harper sent Jake over with a lone fly to Gainer. . The eighth saw the Reds score their last runs which was the result of some hard hlttins which has been missing in the Reds' batting. Daubert opened with a single over short and Duncan followed suit. Sammy Bohne cam along with the longest hit of the day and connected with one that went to the score board and both Daubert and Duncan scampered over the plate but Sammy was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a homer. Connie Macks Athletics broke tho Yankee's streak of seven straight pull ing the game out of the fire in the ninth when Sam Jones skyrocketed, while the Phillies 1 were outslugglng the world's champions 6-4 in a game featured by four circuit drives. McGraw sent three hurlers into the fray in a vain effort to stem Wilhelm's clouters.
