ever experienced, according to Harry Dietz. assistant state entomologist in the department of conservation. Mr. Dietz has just returned from an extended trip through the southern part of the state, visiting orchards around Paoli, Mltchel, Salem and Orleans. Apples, peaches, cherries, plums, strawberries and blackberries were examined by Mr. Dietz. He reported apple trees blooming heavily, with a heavy crop set from all indications. Peaches appeared to be one hundred tier cent set. he said, in many Instances the peaches averaging fromlO tn 2K to th foot of limb on well cared for trees. It may be necessary to thin ' " - w. , out some of the trees, according to Mr. Dietz. He added that there was some peach leaf curl, but that this was found only where the trees had not been sprayed. To Bear Heavily Cherry and plum trees also will bear heavily, the assistant state entomologist said. Strawberries at ' Borden were In full bloom last week; blackberries and raspberries give promise of heavy bloom in two or three weeks. A heavy hall storm at Mitchell last Monday caused but little damage to fruit. The hall caused scarred limbs, but not enough to injure the trees, Mr. Dietz said." He added that in his ob servations he found that Insect condi tions were not serious at this time. Wet weather, however, he added, was favorable for " the development of "apple scab,"? This condition can be combatted successfully, he . declared, by spraying lime sulphur solution. 1 gallons to 50 gallons of water, and arsenate,.of lead,-1: to 1 gallons to 50 gallons of water: " This same solution, he said, would also eradicate two of the -worst insects the codling moth and the plum curculio. Frank Wallace, state entomologist, who has just returned from a trip through many states and which ended in California, said he found conditions all over the country apparently ideal for bumper crops in all fruits. . , . Choice of His Party for Congress- '. Washington, and I shall at all times endeavor to ascertain their views and vote accordingly, if I am nominated and elected to be their congressman. I believe in the theory of a protective tariff, but I do not believe in class legislation and I would not attempt to mislead the agricultural Interests of this country by pretending to protect their interests only to create a monopoly for those who do not produce, after the latter have bought up the products of the farms. "I do not believe that prosperity will be restored in this country unti the government gets definitely out or private business. I mean that this shall apply to the railroads of the country, and every other activity ir which congress has manifested a pa ternal interest. I do not believe then should be a guarantee of income t any class of business, by way cf regu lation requirements and conditions. ) would emancipate the railroads from government control save such as ex erclsed by the Interstate Commerce Commission in preventing unjust discriminations or unfair tariffs. "I believe the federal government has invaded the rights of the states in its multiplicity of agencies having to do with the individuals of this country In their private capacities. I would discourage every sort of fad. commission and board, that have involved the government in a riotous confusion of extravagance and waste. "I stand firmly for the strict enforcement of the Volstead Act, with such enforcement entirely removed from political influence and control. In this particular, I am convinced there is much opportunity for reform. "I am sure there are many places where the application of common sense and business principles will work to the saving of millions of dollars. I believe I am familiar enough with business practices to apply business methods to the solution of these great and important matters. The people of this country are entitled to the application of the soundest busi ness judgment in the consideration of their problems today. The principal business of the government at t'lis time should be the payment of its lojguimaie aeois, wun tne least poi interest and enthusiasm for service that will be of value to them, to the House and to the country.'
