BELIEVE PREDICTED PHONE SETTLEMENT IN EATON IS REACHED
i EATON, Ohio. April 20. Adjustment of the local telephone differences, extending over a year. Is believed to have been reached. Announcement was made Wednesday that the company had accepted a plan of adjustment. All that remains to reach the desired ehd is for an organization of former patrons to reinstate their telephones and agaia become nubscribers of the company. . Prediction made in a dispatch to The Richmond Palladium Wednesday that settlement was near and that announcement of such was expected at any moment seemingly was well grounded. Overtures for adjustment of the year of strife were carried on through a committee from the Chamber of Commerce, of which Harry Flory was chairman. Announce Acceptance
Acceptance of the terms of the arbl-. t ration committee's proposal was an-:
nounced by O. A. Gale, president 01 the Eaton Telephone company. Gale was elected head of the company a short time ago. It is believed he was a big factor in securing acceptance by bis company of the terms of adjustment. The teleohone company, according
to the terms of adjustment, agrees to Install a system of harmonic ringer's and furnish service for $1.75 per month. If the state public utilities commission will permit it, the company will install free of charge all phones, all applications to be on file on or before June 15, next. With two to ten patrons on a party line, the harmonic system of ringing makes it possible to ring the bell of one phone without ringing any of the others on the line. Members of the committee successfully effecting the settlement and others identified with the negotiations have issued a public statement endorsing the terms of adjustment. The organization of former patrons, largely representative of the rural districts, protested a telephone rental raise a jear ago by discarding hundreds of telephones. The members held numerous public meetings there-
rter In Eaton to discuss tne situation. The organization stood pat and so did the telephone company. Neutral interest made numerous attempts to bring about an agreement, but without success. The organization has not been active the last several months, so far hx meetings hsv been concerned.
Members of the organization are not hound In ny mnnner to accept the agreement just announced by the telephone company and the Chamber of Commerce committee. It is simply a matter of choice with them whether they have their phones reinstated. The Chamber of Commerce is known to have felt that the differences of a year's standing had been a detriment to the commercial and social welfare of Eaton and vicinity. ; Wants Franchise Renewed Renewal of franchise in Eaton is nought from council by the Dayton & Western Traction . company. Formal application has been filed by the company and it Is expected action will be taken by council in a meeting April 24. The company seeks a 25-year srant. Its old franchise expir-" in laft March. Motor Bus Ordinance Council has before it an ordinance for passage exacting a fee of $200 a
vear for license to operate a motor bus. It would bar busses from streets occupied by electric lines. Drivers would be required to furnish indemnity bond or liability insurance of $10,000 to $50,000. The requirements are regarded generally as slight and should be the means of attracting rrrat flocks of bus operators to Eaton

for sending, receiving or relaying messages with neighboring cities. The suggestion was made that it might be possible to conduct a limited message traffic even during the summer months on one or two days a week. Druley, Harold Cutler, Fred Clark, John Pegg, and Robert Clark were suggested as relay operators, but It was also suggested that any who can
qualify in equipment and in skill shsuld be given an opportunity to do relay work. It was decided also to Investigate possibilities for maintaining an inexpensive club room and a committee was appointed with instructions to re
port at the next meetng. The resignation of Robert Clark was presented and accepted. The question of establishing a code practice class was considered but action was deferred until the next meeting, to give an opportunity to other members to express their opinion.
HELPED HER MONTHER WONDERFILLY In these days of "flu," coughs, colds, croup and whooping cough. It Is well to know that every year there are used more bottles of Foley's Honey and Tar than of any other cough medicine. Mrs. S. I Hunt. 515 W. 6th St.. Cincinnati, Ohio, writes: "Foley's Honey and Tar relieved me of a hacking cough, tickling In the throat, wheezing and pains In the chest. It Is helping my mother wonderfully."
