Blanton Denounced
y ft
Representative John Gardner, as a "disgrace to the House and a humiliation to the state of Texas." This severe chastisement resulted from speeches made by Blanton in Texas, in which he accused members of the House of petty grafting and misusing their stationery allowance.
GAY, NEW CARRIER, IS WORLD WAR VET AND LEGION MEMBER
Morris TV. Gay, appointed to the vacant position of carrier on motor route B, to succeed Fred B. Pickett, is an exservice man and a member of the American legion. Gay was appointed by the post office department following an examination held last winter, in which three ex-service men received the highest ranking.
Following the resignation of Pickett
last October, Postmaster Charles B. Beck recommended that Frank Quisr-
ley, city carrier, be transferred to the
rural route, claiming that such a move would do away with the two months of poor service while the carrier was
learning the route. Such a transfer would have promoted I. O. Smith, also an ex-service man, to a position as a regular carrier in the city, but the recommendation was turned down for an examination for rural routes specifically. It is understood that both Quigley and Smith are Democrats. "Gay Is a very capable fellow, an

ex-service man, and will make a good carrier," said Postmaster Beck Wednesday morning. "My first intimation that selection was to be made as a result of the examination was a notice from the department that Gay had been appointed. Gay, however, will have to take a month or two in which to learn the route before he can givs the most efficient service." i
