MILLER CONDEMNS

BURNING OF GRASS

Fire Chief Miller condemned the practice of burning over dry grass in the spring, in a statement issued Wednesday. 4'Many times this practice has

resulted in serious fires, said the

chief. Children should be forbidden to light grass in vacant lots and other open spaces or play around flames. One of the first steps in Are prevention, he concluded, is the clearing away of rubbish from around the homes, "Then there is another side of the matter which can not be overemphasized," the chief continued. "I am not referring to the question of health, for the fact that rubbish piles breed dis

ease Is too well recognized to need any further comment. I am thinking of the children and of the example in neatness that the home should set. What parent is not anxious to have his children learn habits of neatness and order? These virtues are usually taught at 6Chool; they are preached in most homes, yet too often, through carelessness, children are 'confronted with a lack of neatness" in the very places that should serve as models."
