REP. ELLIOTT, GALLED HOME BY ILLNESS, IS SILENT ABOUT RAGE

CONNERSVILLE. Ind., March 14Congressman Richard N. Elliott, summoned home from Washington on account of the serious illness of his mother. -Mrs. Eliza Elliott,. .bad bur little to ay today, regarding his candidacy in the primary election. ..It is evident that Mr. Elliott believes that he -will.4c. the; party's nominee and that- hW aleo'feels that the public will support him at the polls, next autumn.

all the time, and he said he had but little patience with the man who al-, ways is thinking of political opportuni-, ties instead of how much good he can do in Washington. j The feeling as shown among voters 'n this district, leaders say. indicate Mr. Eliiott will out face any menacing opposition in the primary. The district is believed to stand for Elliott His record as a congressman is one bat attracts considerable comment and it is thought that the majority of voters are still ready , to pledge the congressman support in Wayne county so it is said. Mr. Elliott has been tendered encouragement. It is true thai he is opposed by a Wayne county candidate in the primary, but this fact seemingly, is the matter of small concern among the Elliott forces. 160,000 Feet of lumber Needed For Tabernacle It will retcjuire approximately 160,ooo feet f lumber to build the Billy Sunday tabernacle, according to Fred W. Rapp. business manager for Mr. Sunday, Tuesday. About 385 square feet of roofing will also be necessary. Orders for the lumber , have been

placed with the Richmond Lumber c ompany and the Miller-Kemper comnanv. it was announced. Eight fur

naces will be provided gratuitously for heating the building, by Roland and Beach, it was also reported.

With the first payment of pledges;

payable March 16, .those who have made pledges toward the financial support of the coming meetings are asked to bring or send their funds to the Sunday headquarters, room 309 Colonial building. Cottage prayer meetings will be held Tuesday night, but as complete lists of the homes in which prayer meetings are to be held have not yet been provided, it is still impossible for the names of places where the services are to be held to be published.

Fred Matchler, 82 Years

via, ueaa ai rr in s oiuiwn WITT'S STATION, Ind., March 14. Fred Mutchler, 82 years old, died Monday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Sammons, of Witts Station. He is survived by his widow and three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Sammons, Miss Josephine Mutchler and Mrs. Carrie Sammons. Funeral services will be held from

the home Thursday afternoon at 1:30

o clock. Burial will be m Eikhorn cemetery.

BURNS URGES POLICE GIVEN GUNS, GARS Isaac Burns, member of the board of police commissioners, made a spe

cial plea to members of the Richmond city council Monday evening during their inspection tour of the light plant, that they take measure to equip the police department with guns, ammunition, and cars. Besides the replacing of one car now in use, which is almost worn out, he said, the plain clothesmen peeded a small machine in which they could cover the town more completely.

Unless this car is provided, he told the council, the police department would be obliged to hire more men to give the same protection that could

have been afforded by use of the car.

Target practice and use of standard size guns by the'members of the force was advocated by Burns in his talk. In case of emergency, he said the:e would be little question as to the mciey that had been expended in furnishing the police with the proper equipment to enforce the law. f Memorial Church Services Planned For Dr. Shelton Memorial sen-Ices for the Rev. Dr.

A. li. Shelton, medical missionary of

the Disciples of Christ (Christian church) in Thibet, who was murdered by robbers near Bantang, Feb. 17, will be held at the First Christian church here next Sunday. The Rev. A. L. Stamper, pastor of the local church, said Tuesday that the church altar would be appropriately decorated and that he would conduct the service in memoriam. History of the life and work of Dr. Shelton will be told.
