ARREST OF EGYPTIAN LEADER CONSOLIDATES NATIVE OPPOSITION CAIRO. Egypt, March 8. The hitherto scattered forces of opposition to British rule were consolidated by the arrest and deportation of Said Zaghloul Pasha, Egyptian Nationalist leader. Egyptians men, women and children seem to be determined this time to win their independence or die. There are signs that their patriotic spirit has ' grown Btronger. The country remained without a cabinet alter Zaghloul's deportation because there was not to be found in Egypt a leader who dared assume th responsibility of forming a new miristry so long as Lord Curzon's scheme to maintain Great Britain's grip on Egypt remained hanging over the bead of the country, as one paper put it, like the sword of Damocles. Schools Closed. Most of the schools, elementary, secondary, as well as those of higher education have been forced to close their portals because their students have gone out on strike as a sign
of protest against the deportation of
Zaghloul Pasha.
Departments of the government have only the semblance of running
concerns, since the natives employe'! in them have walked out in sympa
thy with the great army of strikers
composed of lawyers, educators, mer
chants, doctors and cabmen, who have thus registered their dissatisfaction
with the present situation. Great interest is being taken in the subject of convoking a national conference of the representative bodies and other men of opinion in the country, with the idea of organizing all the endeavors of the nation in the big fight for freedom.

attractive pose.
The age-old idea that it resi the hands on the hips :a very wbad form has been attacked by Miss Walz, who says that correct posture is an art. With feet, body and hands well posed she believes that even the hands-on-hips posture is rather attractive.
Modoc School Notes Four seniors were absent, Monday

Miss Ruth Wyne spent Sunday and
Sunday night with Miss Mary Ed
wards.
The last number of our lecture course wns given Wednesday evening by the Chicago Novelty entertainers. The seniors began the practice of their play this week. It will be given Friday and Saturday evenings, March 31 and April 1. The seven remaining weeks of school will be busy weeks for the sen
iors. Aside from their regular work( they must eive their class play. i
Miss Irmal Gaddis, teacher of the third and fourth grades, was unable to attend Monday and. Miss Lavonne McGunnegill had charge of that room. Everybody who attended the tournament at Union City report a good
time. The basketball team especially
enjoyed the hospitality and entertainment afforded. " The guarantors of the Modoc Chautauqua for 1922 met at the school building Thursday evening and elected officers and committees. There was a fine spirit of enthusiasm and optimism manifested. Everything will be done to make Modoc's first Chautauqua a great success. The following officers were elected: President, Joe C. Burgess: vice-president, C. V. Johnson; secretary, Clyde Warner; treasurer, D. E. Barker.

EXPECT TO SETTLE SCHOOL DEBATE SOON LIBERTY, Ind., March 8. The long discussed school situation In Liberty and Center township is expected to come to a settlement within the next few days. Legal notices in the local papers have run the required time, and the tax commission at Indianapo
lis will render its opinion about the proposed bond issue for a new school bulldine at an early date. A remons
trance, headed by Joshua Davis, and showing the signatures of nearly 200 persons has also been filed at the county auditor's office. A hearing will be granted by the tax
board in accordance with the-provisions of the law. I Which faction wfll win Is the moot question here at pre& ent. Of the 200 odd signer of. the remonstrance, about 18 per cent are people who have children of school age. This makes it plain that the argument binges almost entirely on the money consideration. Since the school buildings at Liberty have been condemned by the state board of health. It would seem that nothing short of compliance
witbttae demand that. sew building be erected will regala the. lost oininlsslon. Fo? this reason the school hoard here believes that the tax board will overrule any objections - raised by those who consider the school problem from the financial side onjy.
