PRETTY SRL MAYOR HAS MANY SUITORS; RESISTS THEM ALL

(By Associated Press) FAIR PORT, Ohio. Feb. 7. Despite being deluged with marriage proposals during the first month o her incumbency as mayor ot this little town, Dr. Amy A. Kaukonen, youthful and pretty, claims she is still able to pay strict attention to the business ot being mayor and that thus far her heart has resisted the efforts of her numerous suitors. Miss Kaukonen says:

"One letter begins 'there ia no doubt that when you receivethis soul plea from a poor widower with nine motherless children,' wherein one learns a little farther on that the Bupplicant weighs 220 pounds and "yearns for somo one who can make apple pies, save money and lova me.' He also states that he is 'the best cornet player in Bird Center.' "Many ot the writers sent their photographs with the letters. One elderly farmer from Kansas wrote that he own3 a farm of over a thousand acres and though he has a little hard cider In his cellar, if his suit is successful he'll 'right soon get rid of that' and closes by saying that though he'll be '75, come next March, to marry the first woman mayor in Ohio would be the climax of my ambition.'

"Another said he would be willing to give tip his pay envelope 'every Saturday night and not fight about it cither,' and earnestly requested 'but don't let this get into the papers or magazines.' "

RICHMOND For many of the scenes of Vitagraph's production, "The Little Minister," which Is being shown at the Richmond theatre, it was necessary for Betty Compson, the star, to wear a diamond engagement ring. The joke furnished much amusement for the members of the company for some time. MURRAY "The Family Closet," adapted from Will Payne's Saturday Evening Post story "Black Sheep," depicts the rivalry between the leading citizen of the

community, and the owner and editor of a newspaper. Complicating the situation is a romance between the son

and daughter of the enemies. The Murray theatre is new presenting "The Family Closet." It is a Playgoers feature directed by John B. O'Brien and interpreted by a splendid cast including Holmes Herbert, Alice Mann, Kempton Greene, Walter Ware, John Dillon, and many others. MURRETTE A rare treat for photoplay devotees

At the end of the first act of "The

Storm" the man from Cambridge in the third row is reminded that he torpot to order the winter coal, and at the curtain on the third act the lady from Liberty wonders if the fire department in her town could handle a conflagration like the one she is witnessing. It's realistic stuff! A slow and almost unnoticeable move

ment of gray clouds in the opening scene pressages the coming storm. Light winds that fail to attract your attention at first become more and more audible. Trees rustle and bushes shake. A gust of wind scatters a few flakes of snow and another blow brings a steadier fall. Before you know it you are in the midst of a blinding snowfall. . MURRAY. McCullough comes from his home at Fort William, Ontario, to attend the eleventh district conference. It will be the first visit of an international president to Indiana,

No previous conference of Indiana Rotary clubs ever had such prospects for big things. It is known that Arch Klumph, of Cleveland, past international president, will attend, and it i3 expected that at least two international vice-presidents will attend the Indianapolis conference.
