FARMERS HOLD THREE SALES DESPITE RAIN; BIG CROWDS ATTEND BY WILLIAM R. SANBORN The farmers who selected February 1 as a good day for a farm sale failed to consult the weatherman. An all day rain 13 not conducive to lively bidding, unless the sale is held under shelter, as in the case of live stock, s. There were three sales billed for "i Wednesday, two of these were farm t ales proper, the third being the W. E.
Drown live stock sale on his farm four miles east of Connersville. In spite of the pouring rain the farmers turned out in goodly number at each of the sales on the day's bill. The farm flivver or limousine recks not of rain, nor does the farmer. He can't work in the rabi so why not attend a sale and meet the neighbors? He asks, and away he goes. When It comes to Felling Implements and odds and ends in a pouring rain bidders are likely to hunt shelter, but if they are interested in the live stock they will take a ducking rather than miss a chance for a bargain. S. M. PARRISH SALE. The Stephen Parrish sale was held two miles west of Webster, on Wednesday. 'It brought out a much larger crowd tha.n I expected, In such a rain," said Mr. Parrish. "but I believe I would have realized more money if the weather had been more favor able." Four head of horses, nine of cattle and three Duroc hogs comprised the live stock. The horses did not bring a greac deal of money, as they ranged at from eight to 12 years oid, but the cattle sold well, the eight females, including heifers, averaging around $4fi per head. A few went at over $60. There was a demand for corn. The. amount put up was not large, and it was divided at 62 to 64 cents per bushel. Hay bought $15 a ton and some baled straw sold around $12. Implements sold according to condition and demand. Mr. Tarrish expects to remove to Richmond within a short time and has rented the acreage. The sale was engineered by Simon Weddle and William Grable, and the net was about S1.S00, according to Walter Farlow, who kept the books. The Ladies' Aid of the Friends church at Webster, served a tempting cold-day lunch. O. L. DAILY'S SALE O. L. Daily, living four miles northwest of New Paris, has rented a busi ness room In West Mancnesier ana, will shortly move to town. Prior toi leaving the farm he held a clean-un sale, and as a result Is about $2,200 1 better off In cash assets, this hems the net of the sale. There were 12 head of milch cows ami one Shorthorn male in the sale. H. R. Sell, settling clerk, reports one cow selling up to $131 with a number selling at from $60 up. Farmers from the .New Paris and Eldorado districts wpre out in force, at 1he Daily sale, on Wednesday, so much so that Mr. Daily says he was gratefully surprised at the number of bidders present in a pouring rain. Ira Buhnnan cried the sale, H. B. Sell, of Eldorado, made tho settlements, and Ed Reed, of New Paris, did the field work and kept the sheets.
BROWN'S LIVE STOCK SALE One of the largest live stock offerings to go under the hammer in the Connersville district in a long timo was put up at the W. E. Brown farm, lour miles cast of Connersville. on Wednesday. The. offering included 55 , - horses and mules, 20 registered gilts C and 20 Big Type brood sows, also 90 leeders of various weights, and a large bunch of sheep. We understand that a number of young mules were not offered, on account of the storm. Price:-, on the average, were said to be satisfactory and there were plenty of bidders in the ring.
