WOULD HAVE COURT r APPOINT WITNESSES FOR EXPERT OPINIONS
(By Associated Press) AKROX, Ohio, Jan. 27. The appointment of expert witnesses by the court, rather than litigants hiring them, was urged by C. E. McBride, Mansfield, president of the Ohio State Bar association, at the annual meeting of the association here today. "Too often, as for example In the notorious Thaw trial, conflicting expert witnesses have been called by prosecution and defendant much to the amusement and disgust of the public," Mr. McBride declared. "The impression is gaining," he con tinued, "whether rightfully or wrong fully, that witnesses can be bought to present expert scientific testimony. Chemists hired by manufacturers have testified to the harmfulness of ingredients which disinterested scientists have regarded as injurious to the hu man constitution. "Again, the use of experts, in many instances, when called by litigants, has retulted in long drawn out trials, without any great material assistance to the jury. How to remedy this situation becomes an important question in legal procedure." Fees can be determined by the usual practice and standardized, he asserted. LEWISVILLE CHURCHES HOLD UNION SERVICES LEWISVILLE, Ind., Jan. 27 The three churches of Lewisville, the Friends, Presbyterian and Methodist, have combined in putting on revival services which began last Sunday and will continue until Feb. 12. Callis, Mrs. Callis and Prof. B. G. Grenfell. The latter leads a choir with the congregation in nightly song services preceding the ffrmon, with the assistance of an orchestra which included two pianos. Mr. Grenfell is also a piccolo and flute player and Mrs. Callis is a violinist. Three services are conducted every Sunday. The morning sermon next Sunday will be on the subject of "The Power that Wins" the one in the afternoon, for women and girls, on "The Mother and Her Daughter." and in the evening on "The Man Who Sleeps." Sunday schools will hold separate meetings before the sermons. MRS. BERTCH TO HEAD UNION COUNTY CLUBS LIBERTY, Ind. Jan. 27. Rudolph Valentino Granted Divorce From Jean Acker NEW YORK, Jan. 27 The "peevish i hi Id" pose, for wives, is out of date. It is judicially and officially pronounced passe by Judge Toland, who has just granted Rudolph Valentino his freedom from his wife, Jean Acker. Both are well known screen stars and iheir long drawn-out marital litigation in Hollywood has attracted countrywide attention. One must share the car with one's husband. It is also good form to let him use one's perfume, and to be unselfish in all the small commonplaces of married life, according to the judge, when he granted the decree. "Said she was my soulmate," says Valentino. "She meant check-mate." DOLAN AT NEWCASTLE County Agent Dolan attended the rogu'.ar monthly conference of county agents of the eastern Indiana district at Newcastle Friday. MURRAY VAUDEVILLE Beautifully set and artistic in presentation, "Rings and Rainbows," the miniature musical comedy headlining the Murray bill this last half of the week is a delightful entertainment. Bobby Earle and Gertrude Rial are featured, while the McLaren.. twins, a pair of Scotch lassies, are found to be winsom and very musically lncnnea. j Terpsichorean and instrumental num-j bers abound. Vaudeville attenders find Jessie Millar a rare treat. First, piano selections, and then cornet, and later, accordian numbers are offered by this gifted young lady. Second appearances are asked of her by generous applause. "Bits of Vaudeville" is somewhat popular and unique. DeLyle and Marmon have catchy lines and tunes. While hardly the act one has learned to class as 100 per cent, it still is the kind of bit that is, perhaps, most often to be found on current vaudeville boards. Meritorious wire walking and difficult balancing feats compose the oriental classic by the Yamar-otha Duo. Alice Calhoun in "Rainbow," is the film attraction. MARVIN. MURRAY For "The Rainbow," the Alice Calhoun production which is being shown at the Murray theatre, a mine with a horizontal tunnel instead of a shaft was wanted so that the opening would be on a level with the ground, to eliminate hoisting it. In New Jersey, location finders discovered six mines, five with shafts, and one with a horizontal opening, exactly as described in the story. This is situated within 20 miles from New York City and is identical with the one described in the script. For the mine it was necessary to secure two mules to draw the car back and forth into the tunnel. Miners declared that mules would be hard to find in that locality, and that Vitagraph would be forced to import them. On the way back to town, however, the location finders met a farmer driving two mules and considered them selves in luck. They engaged the farmer and his mules on the spot. The farmer was more than pleased when he learned that he was to appear in pictures. "Rainbow" was directed by Edward Jose, and furni.es Miss Calhoun with unlimited opportunity in the way of dramatic interpretation. It is a highly emotional story, and one of the best productions the star has made. Stay off the damp ground, avoid exposure, keep feet dry, eat less meat, drink lots of water and above all take i a spoonful of salts occasionally to keep down uric acid. Rheumatism is caused by poisonous toxin, called uric acid, which is generated in the bowels and absorbed into the blood. It is the function of the kidneys to filter this acid from the blood and cast it out in the urine. The pores of the skin are also a means of freeing the blood of this impurity. In damp and chilly, cold weather the skin pores are closed, thus forcing the kidneys to do double work, they be come weak and sluggish and fail to eliminate this uric acid which keeps accumulating and circulating through the system, eventually settling in the joints and muscles causing stiffness, soreness and pain called rheumatism. .At the first twinge of rheumatism get from any pharmacy about four ounces of Jad Salts; put a tablespoonful in a glass of water and drink before breakfast each morning for a week. This is said to eliminate uric acid by stimulating the kidneys to normal action, thus ridding the blood of these impurities. Jad Salts is inexpensive, harmless and is made from the acid of grapes and lemon juice, combined with lithia and is used with excellent results by thousands of folks who are subject to rheumatism. Mr. Hart never has been seen in a western picture of greater drama and appeal than "Three Word Brand." For the first time in his career he plays three distinct parts in a photoplay.
