By reason of the depression. West Virginia coal miners have had little work during the past year, and their families have suffered many privations. Now, with a strike looming on April 1, they face the likelihood of even greater want. The toal miners ask an increase in wages of 20 per cent. , The operators declare they will close the mines rather than pay the proposed increase. Attempts to get the operators and union heads in conference have failed.
