Limitation of basketball activities in the bigh srhools of Indiana, a subject which has been discussed by school authorities, and has even been called to the attention of the general assembly. has been taken up by the ath.lethic directors and coaches of the . Tlnnsior rnHAcoa and linlvarcitfoc The college athletic mentors, at their recent meeting In Lafayette, discussed the high school basketbali situation and adopted resolutions favoring a shorter season. The opinion was expressed at the meeting ,thrt the present playing season of tho high schools, which begins in November and extends until the latter part of March, is too long. The following resolution, addressed to the board of control of the Indiana High School Athletic association, was finally adopted: Ask Investigation. "Voted, to request the board in control of the Indiana High School Athletic association to make investigation in regard to the present length cf high school bas'.etball schedules, an! number of games played, it being the sense of the meeting that the playing season is too long and the number of games too many to be played by a high school team without injury to tte members of the team." The opinion was expressed by some athletic directors that the season should be considerably shortened and each team limited to one game a week until the state tournament is held. Agitation for soothing the basketball fever with which the state high schools seem afflicted has been going on for several years, and at the sp cial session of the general assembly in 1920 a bill was presented dealing with this matter. Because of the brief session the bill did not receive serious consideration. HAGERSTOWN READY TO TROUNCE LOCALS HERE TUESDAY NIGHT Richmond high school's basketball team will meet the Hagerstown first squad in the Coliseum Tuesday night. The local team which takes the floor against the Hagerstown' lads, will be one of considerable variety as far as the lineup is concerned. Coach Stenger announced Monday that he intended using many of the players who came out for basketball early in the yearj and that he had no certain nneup ready to. start the game. The second team men have been showing remarkable class recently and probably will gain consideration for first team berths in the future. A general shake-up in the lineup and a reforming process is under way. Jean Graffis was declared ineligible for further participation pn the local live on account of failing in one subject. He was the foremost candidate lor the floorguard position. Kessler will likely fill his shoes. Harkins and Rost will resume their respective forward positions. Hagerstown will send the best she lias lo take the honors of the evening home and from present indications, iliings begin to look like they would have little trouble. The lads from the little town have been going at a fast rale of speed all year and have developed into a real basketball team. A curtain-raiser will be played starting at 7:30 o'clock. Probably the faculty quintet and the second string men will furnish this entertainment. STATE COMMANDER OF LEGION TO SPEAK Claude E. Gregg, state commander of the Indiana department, American Legion, will address members of the Harry Ray Tost in this city next Friday evening, it whs announced Monday. Dr. George B. Hunt, past commander, completed arrangements for the appearance of Gregg in this city. The subject on which Commander Gregg will speak is unknown.
