I The Conference ; of Prosecuting Attorneys The conference of prosecuting attorneys with
the attorney general at Indianapolis in a few jdays will hearten all of them in their task of
, enforcing. the laws and helping to check a reign jof crime that has manifested itself all over the country. : The attorney general of the United States would not have called on the state officials to arrange for these meetings if he had not believed that good would follow the various conferences. A discussion of the many ideas of law enforcement by the prosecutors will give to all of jthem a keener appreciation of their official ') duties as well as new hope and courage. , ; ; Those that have been remiss and lax in en
forcing the laws will learn that the vast majority of the prosecutors are honestly and courageously

to be on the increase in the United States. Moral values seem to have lost their potency. Action on the part of prosecutors, after the
criminals have been caught, may help prevent crimes,- but, after all, this is only secondary to the primary relief, which can come only by way of an improvement in the moral concepts of men and women. So long as the power of evil exerts a domiaating influence in the hearts of men and women, they will perform deeds of wickedness and violence. Their moral natures must undergo a
transformation, if their lives are to reflect the virtues of rectitude, probity, and righteousness. We have manifestations of sin and evil because men and women are not thinking and living right. If all the organized agencies for good could be concentrated on changing the moral viewpoint of these people, the number of crimes
would be reduced This process i3 a
it to be accomplished in a few days or months. It is encouraging to know that the world has passed through many periods like the present one, and always has moved forward and onward. Those of us who believe that our day and age is the most corrupt and wicked in history lack a proper perspective and knowledge of history. The afterwash of a war always leaves behind it a trail of disorder and unrest. Our country cannot escape feeling some of the turmoil and dissatisfaction. But while we are viewing these conditions, let us not forget that our whole national genius in linked with respect for law and order, which always has prevailed in the past, because we believe in accomplishing results by reliance on justice and righteousness.

TODAY'S TALK By George Matthew Adams, Author of "You Can," "Take It,"
OUR HUNGRY SOULS . It Is a strange fact that those who seem to have most In material possessions, are the hungriest in soul.' Jesus that great Physician to the soul seemed to understand thi3 as few have. One day a very wealthy man came to Him to talk things over. The man had become much interested in this Teacher who had attracted wide attention. This Is what Jesus told him: "You will have to sell all you have before you will be in the right spirit to become a partner of mine in the work that I am doing." On Beveral occasions others came to Him for advice as to what to do with their lives, and His reply was always to get rid of the things which made the spiritual life a secondary affair. When the woman at the well told this Man about her life and" how she came regularly to draw from that well, He told her that it was possible to have a well of water in her heart that would continually flow and quench her spiritual thirst forever. And that is what we all must learn very early that what we have, whether much or little, Is merely loaned to us for a Bhort time, and that the important task in life Is to Increase the health and wealth of our spiritual selves. I always like Christmases, and birthdays, and anniversaries because they make you think of somebody else and that's the greatest way to feed your soul. Two hungry men, talking over their condition between themselves, get nowhere. But it is possible for two hungry souls to talk together and each leave the other's presence filled to overflowing. For the soul longs and yearns for a place to go and the simpler and humbler that place, the greater the feast. In the same manner as bread is the "staff of life" to the body, so Is love the great food of the soul. So if you would be filled in soul love much. Try not to question worth too far just love and love and love. It will all come back!
Rippling Rhymes By Walt Mason THE BOOTLEGGERS On fertlve feet along the sreet In darkness they are going; from stew and slum they bring the rum that keeps the boneyard growing. They make their rye of poisoned lye. of rough on rats their brandy, and he who drinks is wise, methinks, to keep a coffin handy. They fill their vats with old dead cats when they would make Bour mashes; and one small drink will put a gink in line for dust and ashes. They make their gin of rusted tin and upas leaves andd granite, and he who sips curls up and skips from this our well known planet. They make their booze from castoff shoes brought in by vampires ghostly, and he who quaffs finds epi taphs the gods he's needing mostly. Ah, when you swig a bumper big of bootlege rye of bourbon, your works will split, you'll thow a fit no doc can put a curb on. You'll bite the chairs and fall down stairs and start a roughhouse gaudy, and when you're through the crowner true will sit upon your body. . Few, few escape the shroud and crape who drink the bootleg mixture, and with a spade men's beds are made where headstones are a fixture. The bootleg knaves are peddling graves, they're selling bottled slaughter; oh, then, with me drink boneset tea, and pop, and milk and water! "Ask him," we requested the med ium, "ask him if he really lived in a tub!" The table moved nervously, the med ium snored, and from her lips came the very voice of the great Athenian i ownea a yacnt; you call it a houseboat," said the sage. "I lived on it. The jealous yachtsman of the times call it a tub. Gimme a drink. I say, gimme " The voice died away, but we had solved the mystery. The London Times digs up a bunch of "humor evasive" in answers to questionnaires, as, for instance: A person whose father had been hanged by the neck until useless answered the question: "Is your father dead? If so, how did he die?" "My father was taking the principal part in a public function, when the platform gave way." G. O. P. CONTROLS FINDLAY (By Associated Press) FINDLAY, Ohio, Jan. 5. Nowadays, though, we don't have the troublesome task of gathering the s.ige and the mussy fixing it at homo. All drug stores sell the ready-to-use product, improved by the addition of other ingredients, called "Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound." It is very popular because nobody can discover it has been applied. Simply moisten your comb or a soft brush with it and draw this through your hair, taking one small strand at a time; by morning the gray hair disap. pears, but what delights the ladies with Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound, is that, besides beautifully darkening tne nair after a few appli cations, it also produces that soft lustre and appearance of abundance which Is so attractive Advertisement. The morrow No. 56-oln Disappears From Paper A coin is folded in a small piece of paper. The paper is then torn to pieces, but the coin has disappeared. In folding the paper the coin is laid in the centre, and one side is folded over, then the other. The paper is held in the right hand, and the left lingers fold over the upper end. While this is being done the paper is tilted upward, and the coin naturally elides right out the bottom into the right band. The left fingers then fold up the under end, and lay the paper against a class, while the right hand pockets the coin, or drops it in the lap. When the paper is torn, the coin is no longer there. CowrioM. litl, bv Publie Ledger Companu Memories of Old Days In This Paper Ten Years Ago Today The annual banquet of the Wayne county Dental society, attended by a dozen leading dentists of Richmond and the neighboring sections of the country, marked the close of a successful year in the dental profession here. In retiring from the presidency Dr. Robert A. Chattin reviewed the work done in the society in 1911, saying that the society had been active in helping the work or the profession in Wayne county, and had been put on a firm basis, with practically every local dentist a member. In the election of officers following the banquet, Dr. Charles Kneise, of Cambridge City, was named president; Dr. Chattin, vice president, and Dr. Y. S. Anderson, secretary-treasurer. Dr. Kneise assured the members that the new administration would pursue the same policy that had been follow ed recently. - - MOTHER! Your Child's Bowels Need "California Fig Syrup" Hurry Mother!
