The steel trade is looking forward as a wholo with optimism, toward the new year, and is certainly anticipating a general improvement in industrial conditions, and in the volume of business. Just at the moment, however, the market Is experiencing the usual holiday reduction in the demand and is quiet and a good deal unsettled. Price3 have been shaded in some cases and the most Important attraction is the reduction of $5 per ton in wire and wire products. The pig iron market has also slowed down for the holidays and the tone is easy, although there 13 no accumulation of supplies, and a better business Is anticipated after the turn of the year. , In copper there has been the usual pre-hcliday lull in domestic demand, but export business has continued and the market has been generally firm. It Is fald that some of the smaller dealers or custom smelters are willing to take orders for small lots of electrolytic for January and March shipment at 13c delivered, but the larger producers are offering nothing below 14c level, and the copper export association is reported to be selling abroad at prices equivalent to 14c F. A. S. New York. Recent business has included sales to the Orient as well as to Europe, and China has bought a small lot of casting copper at about 13c, F. A, S. Lead remains steady with produc tion and demand about evenly bal anced. Tin has been quiet within narrow price limits. Supplies of prompt have been enlarged through recent arrivals, but there is no pressure to sell. Zinc buyers have been operating for spot cash and early shipment in the near, with prices steadily held. Antimony remains dun ana un-

EVERYTHING TO GAIN NOTHING TO LOSE Are the "bulls" tossing 'em up or the "bears" growling 'em down? It doesn't take much effort on the part of a stock investor to follow the market closely every day. He's anxious to snatch a chance to make a few hundred here or there. v Sometimes he does. Sometimes he doesn't. The P. B. M. meaning Progressive Business Man and the A.'L. H. meaning Alert Little Housewife should be just as eager to follow the Richmond buying and selling market In The Palladium classified section. These classified ads never tell of a "bull" market. But they do tell of a "bear" of a chance to grab a bargain offred by a man who wants to sell in a hurry, or to accept the reasonable rates of Richmond's reliable business establishments.
