(By Associated Press i SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 16 j Miss Steen Scorup, a high school English teacher, who recently defeated her brother, P. C. Scorup, for the post of mayor of Sallna, Utah, declared she Intends to advocate good roads and an Improved water system Miss Scorup said she -did not want to win the election but her brother Is glad he lost and was the first to congratulate the new head of the city government. "I did nothing to bring about success for my race for the mayoralty," Miss Scorup said. "I even campaigned for my brother." In spite of this the brother was defeated by fourteen votes. Miss Scorup was born at Sallna and has taught schofcl there for 15 years. She said she always considered it a citizen's duty to accert nomination for public office and decided to accept the nomination offered her because she thought it was her duty to do so and also because she felt her acceptance would at least add variety and novelty to the life of the town.

MRS. JACOB GAUCH WEST MANCHESTER, C, Dec. 16. Mrs. Jacob Gauch, 71 years old, died nt her home here Thursday. She is survived by her husband and eight ihildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Ware's Chapel. Burial will be in the chapel cemetery. The Rev. Speicher, of Greenville, will officiate. THEODORE FLATTER. After the business hour games were played, pop corn and candy was served and everyone present had a fine time. Those who were present were: Misses Florence Freeman, Geneva Burkhardt, Kathleen Anderson, Virginia Scott. Reba O'Dell, Marguerite Scott, Rachael Taylor.Ruth O'Dell and Mrs. Taylor and two sons. Squire Leslie and Mervyn Ralph Freeman were united in marriage at the home of tho bride's parents in Iowa last Saturday. Immediately after the ceremony the party left for the groom's home and are now visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thornton Freeman, at Spartansburg.

Archbishop Meletios Metazakis, exiled metropolitan of Athens, who is new residing in New York, has received word that he has been elected by the Holy Synod as Ecumenical Patriarch of the Eastern Orthodox church, the seat of w'nicb is in Constantinople.
