GIVEN TO CONFERENCE; NO RECOMMENDATION
(By Associated Press) WASHINGTON, Dec. 12. Secretary Denby, in his first annual report, made public today, announces that lie hai "no recommendation to make at this time relative to the naval establishment. A nronosed future policy for the navy is embodied in the American proposal to the arms, conference, but Mr. Df nby omits any reference to this. His only statement as regards the conference is a recognition of "the arduous and excellent work" performed by the navy general board and individual naval officers in the preparation of information preliminary to it The naval budget for the next fiscal year alre&rtv has bppn submitted to as rnncrpss Tt is hnspri iinon the old I 33dJ policy of "a navy second to none" and Jp3 contemplates continuation of the construction of nine battleships and six battle cruisers, which would be serai ped under the American proposal for the limitation of world naval forces. The total of the budget. $431,754,000 is f264.OO0.000 less than the original estimates. Mr. Denbv's report dis closes, the reductions having been made as a result of conferences of naval officials and budget officers. Heed Economy Demand. Dec. 12 With more than one hundred patients awaiting entrance, the Roosevelt American Legion hospital at. Camp Custpr, near Battle Creek, Mich., will open Its doors about Dec. 15 to former service men of Michigan suffering from tuberculosis, according to announcement by officials of the Michigan department of tha Ieion here. The hospital, dedicated Nov. 7, by Marshal Foch. is unique in that it is the onlv hospital in the country oper ated by ex-service men for the benefit! of ex-service men. Each doctor, nurse and employe at the institution will have seen service in Fome branch of the government fighting machine. Ready for Occupancy. The hospital, converted from the former community house at Camp Custer, where thousands of Michigan and Wisconsin men were trained during the war period, was turned over to the legion by the state of Michigan several months ago. An extensive program for care of ex-pervice men both during their recovery and afterward has been mapI ?:! by the state legion officials.
