FOOD All life is dominated by the survival instinct to get air, water, food, and as great a measure of happiness as possible. Beyond the survival stage, however, one Is led or thrown into a devious complexity of interests, circumstances and problems. In a way, everything we take into our existence or which affects our bodies or cur minds, is a food helpful and nourishing, or else in one way or another harmful and destructive. When the salesman sells an automobile, he tells the customer to drive his car carefully and slowly for the first few hundreds of miles. He explains that the'engine is ".stiff" and must not be over-worked that if it is treated with consideration at the start, the owner will be ainplv repaid by a fine running engine thereafter. The one who over-eats, strains his bodily engine. If you worry, you diminish your personal power. ' ,.- Food is to increase power and to give to every faculty and organ its full efficiency. Cut everything about us must co-ordinate. Our minds must grasp hands with our bodies. Thought cannot travel thru clogged brain cells, nor expand and enlarge the scope of the body if the body's wonderful pans fail to respond to direction and leadership. Food is dominant whether it be for the body or the mind. And we ned such an infinite variety for all that we want to be and hecome! Art, music, literature, science, play, work these are all foods essential and necessary for a healthy and happy existence. Then why starve or grow weak in possibilities when there is so much from which you may draw? Search for those things which build and strengthen you most and stick to them!
Rippling Rhymes By Walt Mason
PAYING UP. The first day of the month arrives, as scheduled by the almanac, and then, to save the merchants' lives, I toddle up the street and back. Escorted by the village band. I climb up Main street's asphalt, hills, and with my checkbook in my hand. I pay up all my monthly bills. It's good to see the grocer's face when I arrive, with checks on tap; it's good to see the glad smiles chase themselves around his haggard map. And from the

Oh, many books have told us how to make the world a brighter place, to speed the optimistic plow, and light up every mourning face. And doubtless all such schemes are fine, and I'ollyannas cut much mine will all the other scheme of mine will al lthe other schemes surpass. I might invade the merchant's 'tore and say a lot of sunny things, and lie might rate me as a bore, and throw a score of bricks and things.

PART FIVE We had all risen to our feet, our prisoner breathing hard, with a stalwart constable on each side of him. Already a few loiterers had begun to collect in the street. Holmes stepped to the window, closed it, and dropped the blinds. Lestrade had produced two candles, and the policemen had uncovered their lanterns. I was able at last to have a good look at our prisoner. It was a tremendously virile and yet sinister face which was turned toward us. With the brow of a philosopher above and the jaw of a sensualist below, the man must have started witti great capacities for good or for evil. But one could not look upon his cruel

Have you not tetherea a young kid under a tree, lain above it with pour rifle, and waited for the bait to bring up your tiger? This empty house is my tree, and you are my tiger.
