35 NET CANDIDATES REPORT TO STENGER FOR FIRST WORKOUT

THREE STARS OF THE ALL-EASTERN FOOTBALL TEAM

Thirty-five candidates reported to I Coach Stengcr in the high school gym j Monday evening for the initial basket! rraetice under his direction. Mr. Lit-! tie, physical director In the public pchools. had charge of the men last j week and rounded them into condi- j tion for their final trials w ith Stenser ; this week. All football men who were j candidates for basketball, reported to 1 the gym Monday evening and entered i

into competition for berths on either the first or second teams. The first part of the rehearsal was

coach took groups of four at a time , and tested th ir ability to get down the floor after the opposing team had shot at the basket. The older and I

more experienced men showed Stenser that thev were able to get down the floor with surprising speed and accuracy. Material which was available Monday evening represented the cream of the net-men of the school. The coach is expected to turn out a first and second team of the highest rank. Every man in the school who had any basketball ability at all. turned out and displayed his ability in the hope of gaining recognition for the team. Several old fine men of experience were out for Monday's work-out. including Harkins. Rost, Graffis, Amick and Green. These men are working In teamwork and represent the nucleus from last year's squad. Harkins is displaying more speed than ever in getting down the floor and his pass work is becoming more accurate, than

ever before in his past two years of experience. This diminutive forward was the heaviest scorer in the district tournament held in Richmond last spring and he bids fair to put up a big scoring game this year. Rost Shows Ability. Rost has shown the ability to bid fair for a forward position in place of his old position at floorguard, on account of his general ability at this position. Stenger has Mattox and Gay lor at the floor guard position and with Rost playing his usual scoring lame at forward, the team should be better balanced. Graffis is the other speedy man who can play either floor guard or forward. He has a fair eye for the basket and can cover the floor fast. Sam Green has not shown his old time form at back guard yet this season, but with a little more punch and rest from the football season, he undoubtedly will develop into the guard which he proved to be last year. Kennedy will combat against Schumaker for the center position. Schumaker has displayed a heavy eye for the basket this season and his ability to shoot may gain him the edge. The opening game will be played at Milroy on Doc. f, at that place. Manager Clevenger announced Monday that the Jeffersonville team had been rdt!ed to the local schedule and the present, list of teams was the strongest which has been booked for some time. Coach Stenger was to take his men to the Coliseum Tuesday evening to test out the players on the lareer floor find enable him to stage his activities in a larger degree.

DOPE FAVORS KEWPIES IN ANDERSON CONTEST

Every man on the Camera Shop Kewpie team is In first class condition for the game with the Anderson All Stars on the. Coliseum floor, Wednes

day night. The game will be played as a curtain raiser to the Legion-Hartford City game. The team has been practicing hard for this game and will use every effort to come cut on the long end of the score. The Kewpies hve not lost

a game tnis year ana are piaying a better brand of ball as the season grows older. Competition of the season without defeat is the goal set by the locals. Anderson probably has one of the strongest junior teams in the state. Thev have defeated all foes this sea

son. Among the vanquished are the j Huntington. Newcastle and Muncie teams. Done favors the Kewpies in 1

fd Newcastle on the Newcastle floor by two points. The Kewpies handed Newcastle two neat lacings on their

floor and at the Coliseum. Miller and Ryan, of the Anderson high school team last season, play the forward positions and are very hard men to hold. Both men were all state men on the mythical team last year. The Kewpies will line up the same as in earlier games. The contest is called for 7:30 shartp.

By Associated Press NEW Y'ORK, Nov. 29 Wrestling rules of years ago were enforced here last night and recognition was given the rolling fall which enabled Stanislaus Zbyszko to retain his heavy weight wrestling title irt a finish match with Ed (Strangler) Lewis. The old rule, which Zbyszko said

has won many matches for him in the early days of his career, provides that when a contestant is compelled in es caping from a hold to roll so that both his shoulders touch the mat momentarily, a fall shall be awarded to his opponent. The referee of lar.t night's contest awarded Zbyszko his first fall on this rule, when Lewis rolled out of a half Nelson and crotch hold. The lolling fall has not been included in the terms of any other championship wrestling bout in the last 10 years, followers of the game said. Lewis won the first fall last night with a flying headloek after 17 ruin utes and 31 seconds of wrestling. Zbyszko was awarded the second fall after 21 minutes 26 seconds and the third fall also olihe rolling type came in 14 minutes SG seconds. Zbyszko taking Lewis to the floor with a double arm lock.
