CLEVELAND GREETS GEN. DIAZ, LEADER OF OHIO REGIMENT

fBy Associated Press) CLEVELAND. O., Nov. 17 Military organizations and the Chamber of Commerce co-operated with Dr. Nicola Ceni. Italian vice-consul and representatives of Italian societies in welcoming General Armando Diaz, commander in chief of the Italian armies to Cleveland today. He arrived from Washington this morning on the first leg of his trip to the Pacific coast. Special significance was attached to his visit to this state in that the only regiment of American soldiers to serve on the Italian front during the world war the 332nd infantry was composed of Ohioans principally, a majority of whom were Clevelanders. The regiment acted as the General's military escort during his stay here. General Diaz was met at the station by a reception committee, headed by Dr. Carri, and escorted to City hall where honorary citizenship was conferred upon him. An almost continuous reception followed, the principal one being set for noon. An automobile tour including a visit, at the general's request to the tomb of former President James A. Garfield was planned for today. A banquet will be given in honor of Gen. Diaz tonight by the military order of foreign wars. General Diaz and his staff will leave tomorrow morning for Columbus. CINCINNATI. Nov. 17. "vvTien General Armando Diaz, commander of the Italian army during the world war visits Cincinnati on December 6, he will be the recipient of an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws at the university of Cincinnati.
