A Plea for Peace "On Flanders' Field" the poppies grew. And soldiers fought and soldiers slew; And soon the field once crimson red Was thickly strewn with ghastly dead. All honor to the boys that fell They bravely fought and they died well, And ne'er forget the lives they gave America's fair name to save. Long past 'twas said "thou shalt not kill" And does not that command hold still? And should not all of ev'ry soil Live free from strife and war's turmoil? Oh may all strife and warfare cease! So that all men may live in peace, And ev'ry nation near and far Be led by Bethlehem's guiding star. Minnie E. Hale, Nov. 12, 1921
