ALL U. S. WILL HEAR PRESIDENT'S VOICE ON ARMISTICE DAY

WASHINGTON, Not. 4. The call of a bugle, the chime of bells, and the voice of a man were swept across the continent from San Francisco yesterday, to oe hurled out over a wide stretch of ground about Arlington National cemetery, with every note, every vibration of the bells, and every spoken syllable as distinct as if sounded a hundred feet from the listeners' ears. It was the formal rehearsal of the mechanism by which President Harding's voice, as he speaks the nation's homage on Armistice day over the casket of America's unknown dead from France, will be carried to audiences waiting in all the large American cities.

High officers of the army and the officials of the American Telephone

and Telegraph company, which is making this contribution to the memory of the dead soldier, had no doubts of success after the first sentence spoken at San Francisco was clearly audible at a half mile distance from the amplifiers on the amphitheter at Arlington. Meets the Test. The first test came with chimes played on a phonograph record in San Francisco. As clearly as if it were not a dozen feet away came the click of the phonograph mechanism as the needle dropped on the face of the whirring record disc 3,000 miles away;

the familiar introductory scrape be

gan, then the bells boomed out wakm

echoes in the cemetery, pealing over

the thousands of graves.

The deep voice took up the task

ogain with the announcement: "Spoken from the roof of the Civic auditorium in San Francisco." It read out the words of President Harding's inaugural address, then announced the bugle call records, and the clear note of a trumpet in stirring army calls swept over the field more distinctly heard than the notes of the bugles at Fort Myer, across the road, where the garrison was at retreat parade.

welcome, whether you come early or late. Program opens at 8 o'clock. At the regular monthly meeting last Saturday, a cheery spirit of ootimism prevailed, as to general business conditions, many reporting gratifying increases over expectations, while some lines seem to be lagging and holiday goods not quite as brisk as desired, the outlook as a whole was one Of the marked ImnrnvemenN

not-withstanding the hesitancy manifested by buyers for future delivery. The monthly business meeting was brim-full of pep and go. featured by a rousing talk by John P. Highley, candi

date for the office of state presjdent. Committee reports indicate progress, particularly regarding the annual dance Dec. 28. at the K. of P. hall. An additional number of instruments has been secured to augment the regular orchestra, assuring the best music that will be offered during the holidays. .Already pressure is apparent in the matter of seeking invitations, the splendid similar T. P. A. events of the

past eight years being a guarantee that this entertainment will meet all

expectations for a most enjoyable occasion.

It is interesting to recall that the T. P. A. was originally organized to combat special taxes levied bv

cities counties and states upon commercial travelers for doing business. In the early eighties the situation became so aggravated that a few travelers determined to resist the tax which subsequently became state-wide questions, and laws were enacted abolishing these special taxes. In 1890 the T. P. A. was reorganized at Denver

on practically tne present lines. The Nashville. Cincinnati & St. Louis Railway now has wireless stations at Tullahoma. Tenn.. and Guntersville, Ga., the first to be Installed by any American railway. "Jim" Porter for many years with

the American Seeding-Machine Co.. andsomewhat discouraging times, yet the

later with the International Harvester

Co., Richmond Works, has joined the staff of Dille & McGuire, manufacturers of lawn mowers. Ira C. Wood, after several weeks of illness, is able to be around again and take up his duties as chairman of the T. P. A. sick and relief committee. His was the opportunity of a lifetime to revel in flowers. That old T. P. A. war horse, John Heger, for the next week or two is doing Martinsville or Martinsville is doing him, with odds on John. Mrs. Heger is with him to keep him

straight. "Business conditions are not all that one could wish but might be worse," is the summing up of the present situation by James A. Carr, whose close scrutiny of the commercial horiscope and wide experience give unusual weight to his conclusions. "While we ait not back to normal conditions and must expect further close and

indications on the whole are hopeful." But few members of the T. P. A. can equal Mr. Carr's mileage which extends throughout the United States, Europe, Egypt. Palestine. South America, the Hawaiian Islands, etc. Post C is justly proud of his record as a State T. P. A. officer, and his business activities which have done so much for the city of Richmond. His war record as chairman of the allied purchasing committee was rewarded by decorations from the governments of both France and Italy. For more than 25 years. Mr. Carr has been a loyal supporter of all T. P. A. enterprises, his charter membership card bearing date of March 27, 1895.

It Is not stated from what radio station the president's speech will be broadcasted, but if, as seems probable, the Arlington station is used, local amateurs will have a chance to listen in on it. The wave length of that station is only 2,500 meters and many amateurs are equipped to receive radio on wave lengths that high.

Breaks All Car Value Records This final drastic reduction brings the leader of high grade light cars to a popular car price

No such striking contrast between quality and price has ever been known in the motor car industry. The great Nash Four factory at Milwaukee was built solely and exclusively to produce this car on a quality basis and to make it the unrivalled leader in the light car field. At its original price of $1395 this great car represented a generous measure of value. Demand has always been far in excess of production. Now at its present reduced price, $1045, a new standard of value is established, through greatly increased production and a narrow profit margin. See and Drive this Nash See this car today and go over it in detail. Observe its big, handsome.

roomy, straight-line body; the choice coachwork of its deep Nash blue finish; the depth and luxury of its genuine leather upholstery. Then consider the Nash Perfected Valve-in-Head Four-Cylinder Motor, the acknowledged performer among four-cylinder power plants. This famous engine, now refined to the utmost degree, gives this car a responsiveness, flexibility and ease of handling that is rare even in cars costing hundreds more. Now ride in this car and get the full Meaning of Nash Four riding comfort on its extremely long semi-elliptic springs. Take it over the rough spots and observe the ease with which each bump and jolt is absorbed. In the three outstanding essentials, appearance, performance and riding comfort
